Other than the size and the line capacity, what are the major differences between the Curado 50 and the 200? I am looking for a reel that would do some weightless worms and topwaters, it will most likely be paired with a 7'mh or a 7'3"mh.

And has anyone had any problems running out of line with the smaller reel?

105 yards of 10 lb. on the 50e; compared to 155 yards on the 200e.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dylan

DMAC14,

Hey, I have both a 50E and 200E5. If you are going weightless plastics go with the 50, or 51 in your case. I have my 50E sitting on a Powell Endurance 7'-2" MH w/ xtra fast tip. It is a great Senko combo!! I got 12# coploy on her now. I just ordered new bearings for her, just curious to see how much it upgrades the reel, the stock bearings are fine. The 50E/51E can throw lighter lures a little bit better then the 200s.

Hope this helps,

Wdy

PS, line problem with line capacity on the 50E.

I have both... 201E is my topwater reel and 51E is my weightless plastic / light jig rod.

I haven't found line capacity to be an issue... I normally jig in 15-30' of water and it hasn't been an issue. I was just cranking with it this morning and had some absolute monster casts with a 1/2 oz lure. I re-tie frequently as well using 12# fluoro.

51 throws smaller / lighter baits much better than the 201... Its also lighter so balance can be an issue. I have mine paired with a G Loomis BCR 803 GLX and its perfect.

Thanks fellas,

I am ultimately leaning towards the 51e, it will most likely hold 10# mono so I am sure casting weightless worms should be a breeze.

Wdy, let me know how the bearing swap goes I'm curious to see how much better you could make this reel.

DMAC14,

I'll let you know how it goes. There is a thread in the Rods and reels forum here that put me on to it. I think I searched Bearing upgrade (in the Rods, reels, line here) and found it that way. There was a youtube video in the thread of someone switching the bearing on a Curado. Try finding that, it should be a fairly recent thread, meaning about the first page. I posted to it a day or so ago. PM me if you can not find it, I'll find it and tell you where to look. Interesting reading the responses! I shot myself in the foot, because I should have order 2 bearings instead of one. Therefore, need to order another one tomorrow, live and learn!

Yeah, I have heard rumors about a new Curado hitting at Icast. Oh-well, guess I am going to have to hit BPS or order on tacklewharehouse some Curados soon.

i had two 200E's and recently got a 50E. lemme tell ya, the smaller curado is a zinger! it will throw pretty much any lure as far as you want to and it pitches like a dream. i would only change three things: 1) the knobs are too small...the 200-series' knobs are much beefier and feel better, 2) i wish it came in 5:1 and 7:1 gear ratios...there's a noticeable dropoff in retrieve inches-per-turn going from the 200E 7:1 to the 50E's 6:1, and 3) i wish it came in a different color. otherwise, it is sweet...fits my palm better, casts better and line capacity is more than adequate.

Yeah, a 7-to-1 ratio would make a really nasty 50E!

by the way, a certain online retailer with the initials TW has the curado's on sale right now...$140 for the 200e and $160 for the 50e.

I'd get the 51E for what you are wanting in the reel. I have a 50e,E5, and a couple E7's and I can't think of any reason I'd need to use one of the bigger reels for topwater or weightless plastics other than if I really thought I needed a faster reel. I use my 50e for topwater and jerkbaits and that little reel casts a mile!
