zdunham Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 How well has anyone done using any of the rage tail baits? I just bought three packs of shad and two packs of frogs. One of the lakes I fish at has a LOAD of lillypads on a flat about 3-4 feet deep and it also has a LOAD of weeds on a separate flat area about 5-6 feet deep, there are a lot of holes to hit in both areas. Previously I've fished these areas with a slug-go just hitting holes jerking it around the surface intermittently. Now I want to try the rage tail frog, rigged weedless, and just glide it across the surface in the holes in the weeds and lillypads. In the morning and/or evening does that sound appealing? Quote
zdunham Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 Also, I forgot to ask this, for anyone who has used these baits, how quickly to they tear up in relation to slug-gos or senkos? I've had some slug-gos last for more than ten fish, does that happen with the rage tails? Quote
aarogb Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I would fish the frog in the pads and the shad in water that is more open. Rage Tail baits are also very strong. The will last you many fish. Quote
mpspeer Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I picked up a pack of toads today as well, I got the green/chartreuse belly's. Which colors did you pick up? Hopefully they will last long, they are normally a dollar or two pricier than some other soft plastics, but luckily Dick's has them at 20% off right now in Lou, KY. Quote
rondef Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 The shads and toads are made to run right over the slop and they work well. I have had tremndous success with all of the Rage Tail baits, not just the toads and shad. So much so that I recently purchased 140 packs of Rage Tail baits from Boaters World while they were going out of business. Quote
Super User CWB Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Drag a Toad over the top and drop a Lizard, Spacemonkey, Jig/Craw or Anaconda in the pockets, holes and through the grass where possible. I think you will like the results. And the Rage Army grows! Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 My favorite is the Space Monkey. It has been, and continues to be, my top producer this year. It also produced my biggest fish this year. The Space Money is very versatile. You can run it on the surface like a frog, or rigged on a lightly weighted hook you can swim it just under the surface. Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 I have the same colors....think I'm gonna get 2 other colors as well, plus some more RT craws..and..anocondas..lol I picked up a pack of toads today as well, I got the green/chartreuse belly's. Space Monkey has produced very well for me and landed me my biggest fish of the year. Fished T-rigged, weightless, stand-up jig head, or on a keel weighted EWG! Flipped, swam, hopping across the bottom! You simply cannot fish this bait wrong! I really need to put those away and start using the other RT baits that I have and give them a chance to produce as well! Go Team RT! Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 i have over 3 gran in lures but last couple of weeks i been just bringing my ragetail frogs with me .I know these thing can do it NOW i wanna see how they do when it gets hot and humid and clear water .they are quality fish catching lures no dought BTW i have been using zoom toad hooks and i cannot belive how long they last i still have the same frog on there for 2 weeks and 38 fish biggest ones being 4 pounders Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 i use the green pumpkin / pearl belly rage tail toad with grat success!!! i use a Owner 5/0 ewg hook and instead of just runnin' it across the top , i make it hop , pause it and let it glide and swim it a bit , then pull it to the surface , and slow roll it , you can't fish it wrong !!! this is my favorite time of the year , frog fishing time ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 While I whole heartedly with every thing above let me add you should experiment with the entire Rage Tail line up. Let's take the Lobster as one example, most anglers Texas Rig them with bullet weights which is a killer technique and so is using them as jig trailers. Now picture this, Texas Rig that bad boy with no weight, cast it straight into the any available vegetation, and work it across the surface like the frog or shad. What you get is a totally different swimming action from the frog or shad; every Rage product can and should be experimented with. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 x2 every one of the RT baits can be fished weightless or lightly weighted and used on the surface or subsurface. The plastic they are made of is also very durable with the exception of maybe losing appendages but that happens to any plastic bait from time to time. I have caught up to 10 fish on the craws and 5-6 on the annacondas. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I just picked up the frogs in the Green Pumpkin and Green Pumpkin and Pearl but haven't had any success with them just yet. I do have the Chunks in Blue and Green and have had lots of success with those as swim jig trailers I also have the Craws in Black/red flake and Blue but have really had those out of the package cause of all the success witht he chunks. I love the action of all the lures but did have trouble getting the Green pumpkin frog to run upright with the hook down in the water. The Green Pumpkin/Pearl ran great out of the package and is the first thing out on my next outing. I use them with a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook also Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Rage Tail baits have become a favorite around here and among tour professionals. The Shad is very popular. BassResource member paul recently caught, pictured and posted a DD caught on the Baby Craw. I watched Big-O kick some booty with the Lobster and my personal favorite is the 10" Anaconda. You are going to hear a lot about the Space Monkey, Frog and Toad this summer. Everyone loves 'em and you need to try them! ttp://www.ragetail.com/ 8-) Quote

zdunham Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Well I just picked up the pearl colored toads, a pack of craws and a pack of anacondas. I still haven't used any of these yet since I just got them yesterday and today but I couldn't help but to buy more. I'm going to a place with a lot of lillypads in a day or two and I will definitely be using the toads and probably try some others. Quote
The Outdoorsman Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 The rage tail shad are awesome and produce great disturbance on the top. I'd fish it right thru the grass or just on the outsides of them. as for the lilly pads, I would fish it right on the edges of them. I have not used any of the other rage tail products yet but I have heard nothing but good things about them. and yes, the rage shad has held up longer than senkos, heck I think most anything does. moby bass Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Got a couple on the shads last year. So far this year, nothing on the anaconda or the toads :'( Quote
mrlitetackle Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 ill be honest..... i didnt read all the responses to this one, but i do have two words for you....... RAGE TOAD...... they are amazing and hold up well too.......(i mean they are soft plastic, so their gonna take a beating....but they'll stand up to more than a few fish before they kick the bucket..) shortbasser Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The Shad is a fish catcher. Put a 5 lb. "kicker" in the livewell this past Sun. which gave me a 10 lb. sack that was good for my first win of the year. Still experimenting with the Space Monkey. Awesome baits. Shortbasser Quote
