Bass XL Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Alright, The lake i primarly fish does not hold frogs. Would it be worthwhile to fish frogs like a spro bronzeye, or a horney toad, etc. ?? Thanks for the help/ Quote
Crabcakes Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 If the lake has cover suitable for fishing frogs they'll work fine. No lake I fish in has large purple 7-10" worms in it and I still catch lots of fish on them. Quote
basspro48 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Are you sure? because almost every lake/river/puddle I've been to has frogs in it at one point. But even if it doesn't you can still be successful with frogs. This is because a soft-plastic frog such as a Stanley Ribbit is pretty much just a super-weedless buzzbait that can be thrown almost anywhere. Look for matted vegetation, lilly pads, or any other type of cover and buzz a frog across it. Quote
Fish Man Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 yea from my experiances they will hit sumthing that doesnt live in the pond....were i fish there are no lizards but creatures an lizards work better or as good as worms Quote

Brad_Coovert Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Bass aren't that smart. They do not know if that thing you are throwing is a frog or not. Baiscally, to a bass, if it moves, its food. If you have some weeds, pads, etc, then the water is good for frogging. Brad Quote
skillet Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I haven't seen any spinner bait looking fish living in the ponds and lakes I've been fishing lately ;D. I apologize for being an smarta** (I just couldn't stand it any longer ). Like MDangler14 said if it has the right cover, Do It. The heart stopping blow-ups would be worth it if you never caught them, but you will ... As Ever, Skillet Quote
Lard_Bass Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Bass aren't that smart. That's why I have hundreds of dollars in equipment trying to outsmart a creature that has a peanut for a brain! ;D (see my signature). Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Yea, but j/w, how do you know that there arent any frogs there at all? But either way, it doesnt matter. Quote
skillet Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 BASS XL, I started a thread a few days ago entitled Hollow Bodied Frogs. Do a search for it. There were quite a few folks that responded with what they used. That way you'll have some idea of what's out there. Quite a few frogs on the market now. Most of the companies have hollow mice and rats too. As much as I've been fishing in my life, I've never seen one of them walk on water ;D... As Ever, Skillet Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 20, 2007 Super User Posted February 20, 2007 Don't apologize Skillet, except for maybe beating me to the punch. I was going to say the lakes I fish have no resident population of blades and skirts, but spinnerbaits work just fine. If the water is warm enough to through a buzzbait, a frog can be a great alternative. Cheers, GK Quote
bocabasser Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 i always throw a frog. whether it is a horny toad, canetoad, swamp donkey, spro, i alway throw some kind of frog. i also don't care what time of day it is either. it could be bluebird skies and no wind, i will still throw a frog. i guess you can say that i am addicted to that topwater explosion. even though you may have never seen a frog in your water, doesn't mean they are not there. i have never seen a sweet beaver before, but i sure have caught a bunch of fish on them. i know there is a joke in there somewhere. hope this helps. TXBasshunter Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Not to mention any creatures smelling like Garlic ;D Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Frogs work everywhere. doesnt matter if its in a no frog area or a froggy area. We dont have gobies around here but I'm sure they will be working in a local pond. Quote
Bass XL Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 The reason i know there are no frogs is that i live on the lake, i have asked many people, and they have never seen frogs around. Second, This lake dosnt have too much structure (sticking out of the water) like lily pads, reeds, or even mil foil, theres the ocasional christmas tree sticking out, but thats just about it. Quote
basspro48 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 hmm...well the frog is most effective in weeds and since you don't have much of that you really have no need to throw a frog. Sure the frog will work, but with the lack of vegetation you don't really need to spend the money to buy a bunch of frogs. I suggest you just stick to a regular buzzbait or other topwater. Quote
Shakes Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Dude. You can frog anywhere. If you can work the frog in open water, then it doesn't matter what water you fish it in. Quote
