Vanish

Had another grreat day fishing yesterday with no breakoffs. I used 8 lb vanish and crossed ones eyes.. Right between the eyes - 3-O hook through the skull only 15 feet of line out and no problems. there is nothing wrong with berkley vanish. I guess opinions are like ***holes everyone has one. My hand is still hurting, I didnt hold back, I tryed to snap the line because everyone seems to have a problem with breaking it.. The dang line does have alot of memory now though.

Been using it for 3 yrs or better. Never had a break off. No kidding I have pulled big limbs down with 17 # and i even posted once before about the 40 + lb carp I foul hooked with 10 Lb vanish fishing a redeye shad. I fought him for 15 mins or better and got him to the boat and the redeye popped out of his skin. The line looked rough as hell but it didnt give. I use a single palomar knot and take my time to not cinch until it is right at the eye of the lure with no loops and a little saliva then pull it tight. It does have alot of memory problems on spinning gear though......

Vanish is the worst line that I have ever used. The excessive memory lead me to calling Berkley and complaining. They were very proffesional and sent me a spool of any line of my choice.

You can keep using Vanish. I don't think anyone here is going to go out of their way to stop you from using Vanish.

When you see posts about how Vanish has not worked for person who made the post, they were most certainly not directing it at you.

If anything, you should delight in knowing, there will be a whole lot of Vanish you can stock up on because many people won't buy it.

I have noted some things about fishing line. You may not agree 100% and I welcome your input.

1. There are manufacturing process differences in the same brand and test of lines, meaning that sometimes one spool will not be as strong as another spool depending on the batch.

2. Old line can fail easier than new line. Go to a store that has a high turn over in line sales to try to purchase the newest and freshest line possible.

3. Storage of line in "hot" or "cold" locations during the year can damage the line. This includes keeping line on the reels in your garage, boat or vehicle.

4. Many fishermen do not check for nicks and cuts in their line nor do they take the time to retie after catching two or three fish in addition to draging the line through structure and cover. You can damage line by taking out a backlash and never know you have cut or knicked the line as you respool until you hook the next fish.

5. Line memory can be reduced by the use of a line conditioner when spooling.

6. If your line has been on your reel for longer than two weeks go outside and tie the end of the line to a stable object and then walk away with the rod and reel. After taking 90% of the line off the reel crank the handle once and then stretch the line four or five times. Reel the line back on the reel through a soaked spot with line conditioner on a wash cloth. This will help remove memory for both baitcasters and spinning reels.

7. I have seen many fishermen point their rod tips at the fish when trying to land them. This creates direct pressure from the fish directly to the reel and the line can break. Keep rod to the left, right or high with enough line out so not to have to point rod tip at the fish. See how the pros land the fish when they don't plop them in the boat. Rod tip high and they are on their knees with hands in the water trying to lip the bass.

8. Damaged or incorrectly tied knots can also fail and it is not the line's fault. Kknow how to tie your favorite knots properly to help avoid knot failure and retie after two or three fish.

9. If all else fails, use braid!!!

One more item I forgot to add to the above list.

Check the line above the knot after tieing. If the line is "wavy” you have “burned” the line. Cut out the damaged line and tie again.

Didn't want to bash anyone. I seem to have gotten some good spools. Can't stand the memory of it though. On my spinning gear I am gonna have to re- spool already definately gonna get seaguar

I have never had a problem with Vanish either. I use 8lb tied to 10lb braid on my spinning rods, 14lb tied to 20lb braid and 17lb tied to 30lb braid on some of my casting rods. The only break off I have had are on hook sets to pike when they have choked the bait. Many,many 4 and 5 + pound fish on Vanish with no problems. I will say I do not like it, or any other fluorocarbon I have ever tried as a main line, but even when I used it as a main line, breakage was never an issue, managability was.

That's good to hear about the 8#, but the 4# is terrible. I never thought I would experience birds nests like in baitcasters on a spinning reel, not to mention some reels I tried it on couldn't even get casts out.

Memory is the the biggest complaint

Vanish was the first fluoro I tried, and I never once broke it. That said, there are way better lines out there.
