RapidFire Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Hey guys, Im new round here but have been reading and lurking so I decided to sign up. My question is Im looking to throwing a couple new baitcasters into the line-up, I've fished the big 2 and currently still do, Just wonder what your thoughts are on the new Smokes? Thanks in advance. WanderLust Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Its a nice reel with a decent feature set. I thought about adding one to my collection but opted for the Lew's Tournament Speed Spool as it was a bit cheaper and had similar features. There are so many great reels in this price range that its tough to go wrong. I'm a big fan of Shimano but have (2) Revos and the Lew's that see duty almost every time out. I'm a leftie so I have limited options. As far as $200 reels, the Curado 50E and the Revo STX or Winch are top shelf. The Smoke is light and looks cool so if that's a factor... I would say its a good choice. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I've only handled one in the stores and read the reviews but being how light it is I'll be adding one to my collection very very soon. Quote
ArkieHawg Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Hey guys, Im new round here but have been reading and lurking so I decided to sign up. My question is Im looking to throwing a couple new baitcasters into the line-up, I've fished the big 2 and currently still do, Just wonder what your thoughts are on the new Smokes? Thanks in advance. I just got a new Quantum Smoke 5.3:1 last month. I paired it with a Duckett Micro Magic rod, making for the most lightweight combo I have ever seen. I gotta say, I absolutely love the reel. All of my reels are Curados and Revos, and I forced myself to live a little and try a Quantum. I'm glad I did. The Smoke is powerful, smooth and its distance rivals the curados. I've fished it about half a dozen times without a complaint. Oh...and it looks bad a** too!!!! I also was torn between it and the Lew's Tourney Pro Speed Spool, but I was looking for a lower ratio, and at the time Lew's only offered a 6.4:1. I was able to get a new Smoke in factory sealed box for only $164.99 on ebay with free shipping, so that made my decision even easier. Lew's will be releasing a new 5.4:1 Tourney Speed Spool model on June 20th. I ordered mine last week Good luck! Quote
dude loves to fish Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The Smoke is an awesome reel. Very smooth. I have all Revo's and one smoke and will probably be adding another smoke on down the road. Can't go wrong with it. Quote
