BadBassWV Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 My son has a slight case of cerebral palsy, his left arm just doesn't work the way its supposed to. He can cast a country mile with his right arm but when it comes to reeling he cant hold the rod with his left hand and reel. I have been racking my brain trying to come up with something, just haven't come across anything that would work. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Richard. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 28, 2011 Super User Posted May 28, 2011 I’ll have to check but there are electric reels Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 28, 2011 Super User Posted May 28, 2011 Richard, can your son reel with his left hand adequately? If so you could switch him over to a bait caster. He would cast with his arm right but reel with his left by using a lefty reel. Quote
beargrape Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 its easy to teach your left hand to crank a reel and your right arm has the strength to fight the fish that is how i fish anyhow. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 28, 2011 Super User Posted May 28, 2011 I’ll have to check but there are electric reels You're right but, I think most of the electric reels are for deep saltwater applications. Which leads me to an idea. Would he be able to use a saltwater rod belt to hold the butt of the rod? That way he would just need to brace the rod with his left hand and reel with his right. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted May 28, 2011 Super User Posted May 28, 2011 Hmmm, I just posted a link to this the other day but can't find the exact same one. Here's a site I found that might help though: http://www.sheltonproducts.com/handicap.html There are a number of websites that discuss fishing equipment for use by folks with various disabilities. If the one above doesn't help, I'm sure Google can give you a number of choices. Quote
