grassed up lures? jigging and spinnerbaiting in grass

the main pond i fish has a real grassy bottom, and since its basiclly all i fish, i have never used spinnerbaits or jigs, because they grass up so bad.  i feel like im missing alot of experiance and possibly fish, becasue i dont use these lures.  i have read the bassresource articles on jigging and spinnerbaits, and it all involves bounceing and rolling on the bottom.  so here is my question.  do i use these techniques and pick grass off every cast?  or do i modify the techniques and jig and roll just above the grass?  will a lure with grass on it still catch?  thanks for any info.  i know im asking a load of questions, but since i discovered the articles on here, i always check em first before posting, so....what ever..im a noob that needs help lol.  thanks, i really appreciate all the help

O.k...this may, or may not help...The city ponds I fish are Loaded with snot grass/ moss..that stuff gets on everything, yet I toss almost everything from soft plastic's to swimbaits. I try to pick my spots carefully where I cast, as there are some small spots in the ponds that are not covered in the moss..so I toss mt lure/plastic and deadstick it for 30 seconds, then retrive, trying to give myself the best possible chance for a bite.

As for spinnerbaits, and other lures, I'll toss em out and slowroll them, keeping my lure just above the weed/grass tops. I still get weeds, grass ect on my lures but hey for that period where they are still void of stuff, ya just might get bit. Btw, these ponds are very shallow, 3-5 ft deep.

Spinner baits thrown in grass will collect grass not much you can do about that but there is an art to snaking a jig through grass while keeping it some what clean.

The spinnerbait can get through by either keeping the lure just above the grass or by ticking the tops of the grass. The second one works to where you slow roll it back to the shore/ boat and when you come in contact with something momentarily speed the lure up just enough to get it a few inches above the grass , then continue the retrieve.

I do have to wonder about the secret to getting a jig through grass without clogging up.

Not sure if I'm explained it right, but here's what I do re: jigs, or any bottom bouncer..cast out to where I think thereis a hole/clearing..that takes time in it self...I then work my jig back toward shore, when I feel resistance, I lift my rod tip up and crank a couple turns fast, I then let it down to the bottom, and repeat the process..sure your gonna get grass on them, but once you have a good idea what the bottom contains, you can reduce the gathering of grass ect on your lures. Again Note: I spend ALOT of time using a t rigged worm to find clearings or holes if you will in any given pond / lake.

I hope Catt has a better, and faster way to do this..lol

what i have been doing with jigs that seem to work is , if i feel any extra weight i lift the rod afoot or so then i snap it and let it sink and snap it again just a couple of quick snaps and most of the weeds slowly sink away, it works pretty good for me
