i was looking at the motorguide pro series freshwater in the 75lb thrust with the gator 20.8 mount and was wondering if anyone had any good or bad experience with this motor.

I bought one about 3 yrs ago and haven't had any problems with it at all. The direction arrow atop the head does not light up so if you fish at night this may be a problem. I also did not use the mount that came with it, I used a tour mount that was already on my boat.................Al

ok, thanks for the input. also another question is how well does this motor drain batteries. like does it go a good amount of time on a full charge or what.

I fish all day and normally have over 50% left on batteries. Fished Santee-Cooper last month all day for 6 days in wind 5-20 mph without a problem, charging at night. If your batteries are good you should not have a problem..........Al

I am a part time employee of BPS so I buy their group 27 deep cycle(good discount). There are better batteries, Trojan and Deka come to mind. The life of the battery will be determined by the quality of the battery charger. This is another topic altogether, I recommend you do a search. There have been many discussions about batteries and chargers and Way2slow is the battery/charger guru........Al

ok thanks, i was actually looking at the bass pro batteries but wasnt sure how good they were.

Frankly, I believe they are a bit expensive but with my discount, not so much. If I were going to pay that much I would look for Deka's or Trojan. If you do a search you will find info on what to look for in a battery................Al

Believe it or not, the deep cycle batteries that you can get at Walmart (Everstart I believe) are pretty good batteries. There are several people on here that use and recommend them. Fairly inexpensive, and readily available.

I had a 70lb pro serie's on my old boat, it was a good motor, I bought new as a take off for 400.00!!all I ever had to do to it was regrease the pinion and gear's on top they dried up there is a bearing up there, and I also put a minnkota prop on it, you can do this on the mg's and it make's a world of difference, compared to the ninja prop's which are good if you don't fish vegetation!! Good idea, I did the same and couldn't be happier, to be fair to the MG, I went from a 12v 5 speed 46lb thrust MG Pro series, to a 24v variable speed 70lb thrust MK Maxxum. Make sure you go with the variable speed, I can fish all day in the wind and still have battery power to spare. Best improvement I have put on my boat.

I was told the everstarts have "smaller,thinner" cell's or plate's in them versus the Interstate's etc which is the reason for the price! I only use interstate's, optima's are just too spendy but the extra money is probably worth it though. Junebugman
