sp006 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'm looking for a small (1.75"-2.5") topwater lure that can be casted a good distance. Anyone have any recommendations? Quote
acmaul13 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I've had success with rapala skitter props and heddon tiny torpedos 8-) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Zara Puppy. This might be the most productive topwater lure you will ever fish, but it's a "numbers" lure. I have never caught anything big on the Puppy. The color you want is the Black Shiner: http://www.tackledirect.com/heddon-zara-spook-puppy-lures.html 8-) Quote

ShouldBe0utdoors Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 If you have an Academy near you, their H20 Express popper is pretty easy to cast and I've had good luck with it. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Easy to cast? Although not my favorite of small baits the Yo-Zuri banana boat jr. WILL cast 2 country miles with ease due to the magnetic weight transfer. http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/ProdMinnow/BananaBoat.htm Quote
bigfish88 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 storm chug bug for the win!!!! that about sums it up, great topwater bait one of my favorites and i can chunk it a country mile. Quote
CRFisher Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 All great suggestions. I'm a fan of the Zara Puppy. Another suggeston - a small Johnsons silver minnow with a 3" grub trailer. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 Heddon tiny torpedos, Rapala Skitterpop #5 and #7, and Rebel Pop R. Don't forget the Heddon Pop n' Image Jr. either. Quote
Tim Ford Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 It's going to sound crazy... but for me, Bass Pro Shops XPS Pro Series poppers are the best top water poppers I've used. Quote
hjerk24 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Xcalibur Popper for me, or a chug bug. What they heck, buy all the suggested ones, and have a sweet topwater box...for all situations! There are some cool lure listed. Kinda amazing how we get pigeon holed into the baits we have confidence in. What if...we tried another top water first, would we try all the others, or just stick with a select few? HUM? Quote
