Muad Dib Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 looking at getting a spinning rig for throwing hair jigs and weightless plastics. not sure what the differences in these two rods would be and am unable to see them upclose. i was looking at 6'8 mxf spinning. any thoughts on the differences between them. any help would be great . thanks t Quote
WanderLust Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 For that application Avid is great unless you prefer split grip... Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 23, 2011 Super User Posted May 23, 2011 I have some of each. Love both the Avid line and the LT. I personally don't see why the LT line is worth fifty to sixty bucks more. While fishing, there's not much difference between them. The only time I would choose an LT over an Avid is to get a particular length, power and action unavailable in the Avid lineup. There are quite a few more models in the LT series. You will not go wrong with either. Quote
Muad Dib Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 i hope this would be a good rod choice for hair jigs and weightless t-rigs? any thoughts? Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 24, 2011 Super User Posted May 24, 2011 I'd say that's a great rod for that application either way. If you like split grips, go LTB, if not... Avid. I doubt that you'd notice much of a difference performance wise between the two. I personally like my LTB better, but it probably has more to do with the looks of it than performance over the Avid. joshmb1999 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I agree with what most others have said. I have both and use them for weightless, t-rigged senkos and can't really tell a difference between the two. Knowing what I know now, I would just stick with the Avid and save the extra money but you won't be unhappy with either. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 25, 2011 Super User Posted May 25, 2011 LTB are lighter, and use better guides. Not a ton of difference in sensitivity, but some. The teaser and sweeper are definitely preferable to the AVC70MF and AVC70MHF in feel applications, all of which I own. Quote
Slipknot6 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I personally would go with the LTB, and yes that rod will work great for that application Quote
Canga Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 an alternative, if you like both the LTB and full grips, the legend tournament walleye series has a 6'8" mxf with the same blank as the LTB and a full grip... i use my les68mxf (legend elite) for that purpose and it works great. i also have an avid avs63mxf and its a very nice rod (especially at $160). i think either way you go would be a great choice, and keep in mind, if you buy the avid and dont find it exactly what you want, you can upgrade through st croix! Dave T. Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I have an LTB, and I get to fish my buddies Avid in the same power, action and length. Honestly, both are great rods. However, personally, I like the split grip and lighter weight of the LTB. I also think it is a little more sensitive, and has a bit more power in the butt section than the Avid. On the other hand, the Avid actually feels a bit more balanced with the same exact reel. My buddy fishes my LTB, and feels pretty much the same way about both rods. However, he says he's happy with his Avid and wouldn't spend the extra $50 or so on an LTB. So, in the end, it's a matter of preference, or what you want to spend. Quote
