cBooms@SML Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 What do you guys think is the best type of oil for a small outboard? I have a 2001 mercury 3.3 OB and I want to keep it running as nice as possible. will any oil that meets the SAE standards work well, or should i get synthetic oil like Pennzoil? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 23, 2011 Super User Posted May 23, 2011 Wouldn't you just use Mercury tcw3 marine oil? Quote
cBooms@SML Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Wouldn't you just use Mercury tcw3 marine oil? i guess so but i just want to use the cheapest stuff that will make the engine run well as well as kind of clean it out Quote
Al Wolbach Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I like synthetic oil also and a lot of people rave about the synthetic Pennzoil. As a general rule they lube better and burn cleaner...........Al Quote
TennesseeShad Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I like synthetic as it burns cleaner. Just make sure either way it is tcw3 rated. Quote
Jim McC Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I use the Pennzoil synthetic, and buy it at Walmart. Quote
