So I need help at finesse fishing its one thing I am horriable at unless I'm visualy sight fishing a shakey head or a weightless fluke. All others like drop shoting and light little slow baits I just can't get it. I think a big part of it is my equipment my only spinning set up is a BPS extreme ex400 with a MF rod the thing just sucks its by fvar my worst set up it has no sensativity I think and the reel grinds and the drag is either all or nothing with like a degree of rotation on the drag knob. So I feel like I'm not feeling pretty much.

I'm thinking after this long drill when I get home in june I'm gonna buy 2 new set ups like maybe a veritas spinning rod with maybe a shimano reel or the lower abu reels the one just above the cardnal series. This will be my major spinning set up and finese bait combo.

The other will be a rod for carolina rigs cuz I hate seting one up for it and changing my mind and then changing back later so I want one set and dedicated for c rigs but I think the priority will be the spinning finesse combo.

Besides the combo deal what else would u recomend to master the finese techniques probably a braid for line and just leave all but the finese stuff home and just practice practice practice

Patience. Some quality barrel swivels to reduce line twist, and spend some time matching your hooks to the bait. You don;t want too big or soo small a hook for your presentation.

that set-up looks good with 8lb line or a small dia. braid. Get some tubes and 1/8 oz. jig heads. 4" worms and some Gamagatsu 1/0 straight shank worm hooks. texas rigged with a 1/8 oz bullet weight and you are ready to go!

Hey, I wouldn't blame it so much on the stick except maybe you use it so infrequently that you are not sensitive to its' feel. Finesse is easier if you close your eyes and imagine being the bait while also being a marionette puppeteer. You want the bait to look like a real injured fish, foraging worm, or flapping insect stuck on the water. Above all else, have patience. Remember that while an injured fish may be panicking, it is also getting exhausted. A foraging worm is aware that it may be attracting attention and so it will move very fluidly and un-interesting-ly. A bug: well, throw one on top of the water and watch it. We've all done that, right?

With respect to the carolina rig or texas rig, I've found that the heavier the lead, the less finesse I can give the bait. So to really practice your finesse, use a lighter lead weight or use none at all. Remember that the worm will take forever to sink, and even then you can't be sure that it actually did hit the bottom. It will not dig in the dirt and kick up clouds. But it will travel like it knows where it wants to go. I've had the best luck with lizards and snakes with no lead.

my favorite type of fishing is finesse. Im no pro but what i did to get good at it is put a little worm on a shakey head and play around with it in like 2 ft of water so you can see how little it take to move it, plus moving it slower can keep it in the strike zone longer. keep it slow, if your not catching fish youre not fishing slow enough atleast thats how i was taught and i think its a good thing to go buy.

and on the abu spinning reels i love them. i have a cardinal, not for bass but for trout. nice little durable reels i couldnt imagine what their higher end reels are like. good luck on you finesse fishing quest.

I have been on this forum several years and everone knows I am a die-hard ABU fan. Take my advice and buy the Shimano spinning reel. The lower end ABU reels are junk.
