When I shore fish (which I love), I bring one fishing outfit and a tackle box that fits in the glove box of my car.

In stark contrast, the list of gear that I tote in my boat is embarrassing, and would stress the bandwidth of the website :D

I always take everything I own. 5 combos. Two bags. One holds four of the normal size plano boxes and has all my hardbaits. The side pockets hold sun block, pliers etc. The other is the same size bag but is full of all my plastics. Terminal tackle is stored in a small box in this bag along with a jig box. Thats it, thats everything I have. If I know I am making a quick 1-2 hour trip I will bring only two rods.

I rarely fish without my boat. When I do I take 1 tackle box, 3 rods (1 bait cast, 1 fly cast, 1 spinning), a soft six pack cooler of sodas on a strap, a S&W model 629 in a shoulder holster.

Most of the time when I'm pond hopping I'll take two rods and a BPS large binder. That said, I usually don't need anything in the binder, except when I'm fishing certain plastics. Here lately I've been fishing a Scrounger and either Grass Pig or Fluke. I take one casting and one spinning with a SK 3x on a 3/16 shakey and I'm good to go for a couple hours.

I usually bring one tacklebox (has plastics, and hardbaits in it), and four rods. I mainly end up actualy using two of them though.

2 rods, one baitcaster for pretty much everything except plastics, and a spinning rod for plastics. A back pack with 2 360 boxes (one with terminal tackle, and another with a few cranks, jigs, topwaters), my spinnerbait wallet, and several bags of plastics. My pliers, camera, scale, tape measure, all fit in my backpack as well. I used to take 3 rods, but, its just too much of a hassle.

I do a lot of bank fishing, but I have to hike in far from parking to the lake. That said, I usually carry 3-4 rods (jig/bigworm, spinnerbait/paddletail, crank/topwater, dropshot/senko) and 1 tacklebag (15-20#) with most of my gear in it. If I am targetting a specific presentation/place, I go down to two rods and half the gear in my tackle bag. I don't encounter enough rattlers to bring a hook, I've seen one ever and you can always shoo them with you rods if you need to. I do carry a combat knife though, on the off chance I ever have an encounter with a mountain lion or crazy person.

I shore fish almost exclusively, and bring 4 rods and my BPS Stalker bag filled to the brim with an assortment of just about everything. Most of it I never use by my OCD doesn't allow me to cull from the bag any lures I think I might need...

I always have a spinnerbait rigged, a crankbait (usually an RC1.5), and two soft plastics. For the plastics I normally start with a baby brush hog t-rigged, and a trickworm weightless. If the Spinnerbait or Crankbait are working, I fish exclusively with those, and use the trickworm to cast to fish I missed a strike on. The brush hog I use to clean up a spot, sometimes getting a shy fish that didn't want the spinnerbait.

2 rods and a backpack full of tackle.

i love using a back pack, alot easier than carrying around tackle boxes

Never bring a knife to a gun fight. You seriously want to tackle a cougar with a knife? That's what Smith & Wesson make .44 magnums for! Same goes for any human threatening my life!

One small gander mountain bag for hard baits, jigs, hooks and weights. One backpack that carries my soft plastic binders(2),lip gripper/scale,bug spray and hand towel.

1-3 rods depending on what and where I'm going. Most of the time I usually bring two, just in case I have problems with one of my set ups.Usually it's one spinning set up and one baitcaster.`

I usually take one or two rods, which vary upon where and what I am fishing for. I have a small soft sided tackle bag I leave in my car for spontaneous stops, or if I have to walk to fish. If I don't have to walk far to the water I bring my big tackle bag and more rods. How many rods I bring also depends on how much time I have to fish, and if there is a safe place to put them when I am not using them.
