gar-tracker Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Hope you get well soon. See ya in June! I'm hoping I should be ready, I'm finding out that physical therapy is the code word for torture. Its going to be a close call. Quote
piscicidal Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Does anybody do any nightime fishing. When I lived in Orlando 80% of my fishing was at night and most all my big fish have come at night. Just wondering how it goes in the glades at night with the skeeters and prowling gators. Has to be productive, especially since its so hot now. Gonna try Luke's night owl tourney this Friday. Fished one of those last year and it was pretty fun...I'll be donating (and not just my blood to the mosquitos!) Quote
Busbey Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 picking up a 10ft canal/pond boat tonight and hope to get out to Lox asap. only seeing it on google maps, can anyone send me a map or something with some nice spots? which way to go? how much beer to bring? oh and i like the Hillsboro west from 441 location. close to my house and more conviniant (if this is doable). A thermacell might be needed, otherwise you might want to drink plenty of OJ during the blood donations. Quote

You might want to be very careful at Lox with the 10' boat. There are some gators in there bigger than your boat. Some of them have no fear of man(especially close to the ramps) and will come up to your boat. You won't be able to go very far with an electric motor, so get there at first light and fish north and east of the ramps. Fish the hydrilla mats and sawgrass edges with swim baits and frogs. Hope this helps. Quote
Busbey Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 thanks for the tip. ill stay away from there then. maybe i will just stick to my small ponds until the big boat comes later. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 31, 2011 Super User Posted May 31, 2011 I've been tempted to take my jon out to lox. Even more so after seeing the small plastic boats last time we were out there, Kevin. Talk about being able to get into some skinny stuff right now with the water levels so far down. I've seen how fearless some of those gators are though..... Quote
Busbey Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 thats what im saying. those gators are fearless. i dont know first hand but i have been around for a while and heard the stories. oh and i watch Swamp People too Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 31, 2011 Super User Posted May 31, 2011 I'll put it this way, the last couple of times I was there (once with glades), those stupid things wouldn't back off. I could have very easily hooked a few of them on a spook. One of the other trips I made out there, we had a gator just hanging out right next to the boat. We'd move, he'd move with us. Not something I'd want to experience in a small boat. Especially one that sits so low to the water. Quote
scout15 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Fishing Loxahatchee a couple times in my 10 ft Pelican international plastic pontoon boat. The gators looked at us like we were the desert tray. These plastic pontoon boats are very stable, alot of fun and CHEAP to run. Very low maintnance and go anywhere. Quote
SoFl-native Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 There is no getting away from them when the water is as low as it is. I hit one with the trolling motor on Saturday and then had one literally hit the boat with is tail Monday. They are pesky little scoundrels. They follow the boat constantly and will make a run at a fish you are catching if you arent careful. Good news is the bass are there too. Quote
topwaterrob Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Yea theyre eatin their own..... Holiday Park center canal Quote
piscicidal Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Had a large gator bump the boat (hard) one time at Lox in what was clearly an aggressive move. Discretion being the better part of valor...we quickly found a new spot to fish. Quote
