SwimJigs Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I tend to stay away from ponds with snot grass. I can't stand getting my line and reels all gunked up with it. Though when I did fish those ponds, a fluke and topwater required the least maintenance. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 20, 2011 Super User Posted May 20, 2011 I'll answer.... I only t-rig around docks or submerged wood. Otherwise, nose hooked on a wacky hook. If the weeds are so bad, you can't get through, I use something else. Thanks JF, I'm very appreciative. Quote
PondBoss Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 I T-rig it, and skin hook it on the back side. That may be why I don't get very a long life out of each bait, but it sure does add to my hook up ratio. A while back I had a post on here about fishing flukes and having an almost zero hook up percentage, since skin hooking on the back side, my hook up rates have sky rocketed. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 My favorite lure to use around algae is the eeliminator. You can crawl it over the mats and then dance it through the open pockets. I fish it weightless on a 4/0 hook. It stays pretty clean Quote
SCangler91 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 If the pond doesn't get too deep I'd throw a trick worm on top of that crap. Those bass will come up through there and slam it if you make enough commotion. It's also good to throw and just let it sink in the holes where the "snot" isn't present. Quote
snuffy33 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I tried something a bit different last year, a Rage Craw on 4/0 or 5/0 EGW fished weightless. Gives them something besides the usual trick, ribbontail etc to look at. Quote
gar-tracker Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I thought Syro Grya was a jazz fusion group Yeah, it's filamentous green algae, nasty stuff. A drop shot rig will keep your bait out of the stuff. Spyro Gyro was from my home town, Franco, killer group. If we're all taking about the same snot grass its indicative of healthy water. It is hard to fish though. Quote
krisjack69 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I have this problem as well and also with some sort of algae type grass.I rip lipless crankbaits through there and I wont let it sink to the bottom so the trebles wont get the mess.I also use trick worms and strike king ocho weedless.Snot grass is really a problem in alot of waterways and I wish I new how to get rid of it. krisjack69 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Isn't there a better chance for a snake to bite u in a tube than canoe or boat cause I have few snakes that I have seen around the pond I fish.I dont know what kind it it tho. There black purplish color. Quote
PondBoss Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I see all kinds of snakes, never had a problem with any of them. They always seem to go the other direction when they see me coming. "they are more afraid of you than you are of them" so they say Quote
