ChrisAW Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I'm looking to replace my Wiley P17's that seem to have been stolen over the weekend. I'm almost sure it happened at work, and I plan to try and find out what happened, but when asking around today someone mentioned that we get a huge discount (Off MSRP) from Wiley if I never come up with them. So I was planning on buying another pair based strictly for fishing, hoping I find my old ones to use for every day. Anyways, I'm looking for opinions on what to get. I had P17's, and they worked great for me. But I dont like the straight arms, or the rubber behind the ear. The only other problem I had is with peripheral light when the sun was to my back. It would cause reflections inside the glasses. I figure the wrap around style with the thicker arms will help keep peripheral light from being a problem. I wanted the Revolvr's, but they aren't available with polarized lenses. So that pretty much leaves the ZAK's, or maybe Hydro's. I don't think I really want any of those facial cavity style ones, but I won't count them out completely until I hear some opinions, most likely the Jake's or Rout's if at all. Help me pick out my new glasses. It might take 3 weeks to get them to me so the sooner the better, tournaments begin in about 3 weeks for me as well so I need to get them ordered ASAP. I'm just looking to find out if the ZAK's/Hydro's keep out light better than the P17's, or if the facial seals are worth buying. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted May 18, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted May 18, 2011 I'm on my second pair of Jakes. WX replaced the first pair at no cost after they broke. They have a wide are and the rubber inserts for running in the wind or sight fishing. I will never wear anything else. Quote
ChrisAW Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Thanks, so far I've been getting more replies about the Jakes than anything, kind of leaning that way. Anyone else? Quote
Mike 12345 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I have a pair of P17's as well as a pair of Jakes. I like them both, but the Jakes are really great. I have the amber lenses with emerald green coating. The color separation is fantastic. The wider arms on the Jake block out a good deal of peripheral light too, if you don't like the inserts. Quote

daiwa junkie Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I bought a pair of the cavity seal kind, they are supposedly the military issued, and they do fog up most of the time, and if they dont, so much moisture builds up its like when you have rain on your windshield and havent turned on your wipers, the pair i have are older , and discontinued, but if the problem hasnt been fixed, it will be a issue,, they are nice glasses, but keep you reciept, just in case,,,i hope this helps Quote
philsoreel Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 The problem has been fixed from what I've been told. My optometrist says that due largely to Southern anglers ( because of the 100% humidity most of the summer) having issues with the cavity seals fogging they have made positive changes. Chris- Are you aware that the cavity seal is removable? Quote

Chris- Are you aware that the cavity seal is removable? Oh yeah, I know they are. Just seems like a waste to order such a style of sun glasses if I never plan on using the seal. Also, seems like the glasses would be designed to fit someones face with the seal on, and would be an awkward fit without the seal. But I found a local dealer and I need to go and check out how some of these fit. I still haven't ordered any and I'm probably screwing myself over here with one of my first tournaments days looming. Quote
philsoreel Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I have the emerald mirror P17's. I tried on others with the cavity seal in and out and they were fine. My glasses came up missing the day they started spawning here so I got backed in a corner and had to go with P's because the only other polarized lenses they had were those Skeet Reese ones. I was scared the Skeets might send any fish I caught into shock...hideous. I think they basically design a normal pair of sunglasses then fill the gaps with the cavity seal. Stick some shades on and feel how much gap there is between your face and most of the frame. There's not much touching. I'm sure there's some tweaking they have to do for them but they feel normal without. I'm going with the Routs in smoke for the rest of the summer, emerald mirror is a bright amber. Was warned to stay away from the Jakes but can't remember why.?.? Quote
