Coffee Scented Lures?

Hey just wanted to know a little bit about the new coffee scented lures and if they work and why? i don't get why coffee scent is good. Oh yeah, and is it possible to poor coffee or coffee grains on lures? Just curious.

My nephew puts coffee grounds in with some of his gear he's always trying crazy stuff he puts coffee in a tic tac case with his snaps and stuff some in cheap unscented plastics garlic cloves u name it. Personaly idk of its helping me I got rage baby craws in coffee scent all I know is it smells like a capacino and it smells awsome to me so the fish have got to like it right....right

Strike King's "perfect plastic" lineup is coffee scented, like their Caffeine Shad. Seems to work very well, or at least does not hurt anything.

Hey i wonder what brand coffee they use, or from what country? Do they like dark roast or med or light, how about gourmet coffee?

If anything it covers the scent from ur hands I'm not completly sold on the whole fish can smell/taste ur fingers stuff even though I put mega strike on everything but you use your fingers to put it on so wouldent your scent still be there.

Strike King's rage craws are coffee scented now too. I still have a pack from when they first came out and were unscented, and I have not noticed a significant catch difference between the two.

At a Bassmasters University one of the pros told the story about the coffee scented lures.

I don't know if this story is true but here it is to best of my recollection.If anyone else has heard this tale and it needs to be corrected, please do so and I thank you in advance for your input.

Some Berkley guys were trying out new baits when they threw coffee grounds towards the shore.

They noticed that the grounds attracted the minnows.

They repeated the test and once again the coffee attracted the minnows.

They took this data back to the lab and did some testing and out came the Ocho.

Simplistic story but you can get the gist of it.

I have coffee scented platics but have not used them. I may do so just for the fun of it in a tournament thsi Sunday.

I usually try out new lures and baits in local ponds to see how the tame bass react and I may use the Ochos just to see what happens.

So everyone who uses them please let us know if they produce strikes.

I use the blue craw ocho and I have caught many bass just my fingers would smell like coffee tho.I dont even drink coffee.

I dont think it is a better fish attractor, perhaps, makes them hold longer and masks scent like another poster said. The only attractant I KNOW to work is megastrike.

I'm working on, and have almost perfected, a line of terminal tackle. Hooks, weights, split-shot, jigs, jigheads, swivels and snaps; all permanently infused with the scent and flavor of donuts.

Nobody can refuse coffee and donuts in the morning, least of all a bass.

I've used coffee flavored tubes, caught a 3lbs fish from one pocket where the day before I caught another if not the same 3lbs fish from that same spot using a brush hog. So I really don't know. What I do know is that I like the smell of it. A long with the smell of Anise. And there's something about opening a bag of berkley powerbait, you just have to smell the bag.

The comment about throwing coffee and seeing it attracting minows makes me wanna try to make stale fruit loop cereal flavored baits cuz the minows love em so do the ducks and geese or stale cheerios lol

Same with the Power Bait line. It can make you dry heave if you get too close.

You stiff them? A bit too much info, don't ya think?

I got heavily outfished by a buddy of mine using the same color senko. His had coffee scent though. I switched and began catching fish. Happened a few times later that year when i'd put on a new senko and stop catching them only to realize it wasn't the coffee scented one. Only happened with that one color though. Didn't happen all the time, but it's probably just like any other thing. Sometimes the fish want it, sometimes they don't.

I was catching fish on the SK rodent the other day and ran out of them. Switched to a Yum Wooley bug (not coffee scented) in a very similar color and they wouldn't touch it. Was it the coffee scent? Don't know but there wasn't many other differences in the baits.

I've heard two stories, but I doubt either is correct.

1) Some fisherman would discard their coffe grinds outside their house and quickly realized that worms were attracted to the location in their yards where the coffee grinds were being discarded. The worms were then used to fish with and somebody thought that the fish hit the worms pulled from coffee grinds better than worms pulled straight from the ground in other areas.

2) Old-Timers would mix their coffee grinds with the soil in the containers that they used to grow their fishing worms because they thought it added nutrients to the soil. Over time, people started to think that fisherman added the grinds to the soil for the scent instead of the nutrients, and thus the coffee scented lures were "created".

I doubt either scenario is correct, but sometimes its neat to read/hear how people think things came about.
