Aluma-Bass Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Winner of this tournament got a new nitro bass boat right or was this another tourney im thinkin of that was the Oakley Big bass tourney that gave out the new boat! There were 2 T's going on this weekend. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted May 23, 2011 Super User Posted May 23, 2011 that was the Oakley Big bass tourney that gave out the new boat! There were 2 T's going on this weekend. There was also at least 2 other club tournaments that I know of in addition to the Oakley and the BWS. The Oakley tournament had around 300 anglers and was a big bass tournament with weigh ins/payouts every hour. The biggest bass of the whole weekend (which was 6.28) won the boat. The BASS Weekend Series was a typical tournament format (anglers + co-anglers) and had 22 boats. Quote

The guy (Tony Padgett) with 6.28 could not pass the lie detector test he should be banned from tournys on SML. I heard he failed it 4 times he said he was nervous. His wife was his partner in the tourny the tourny Director said if she could past the test to verify he caught the fish he could still win the boat but she refused to take test. So the story I got from Tackle Shop was his buddy caught the bass Saturday night about 1:00 am and gave him the fish to weigh in. Oh and he's the same guy that won the big smallmouth in the Optimus toury this year !!! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted May 24, 2011 Super User Posted May 24, 2011 Yeah, I just saw somewhere else that he failed the polygraph. Sucks to be him for sure. Congrats to JD. The big fish had lockjaw this past weekend, no doubt. Too bad we couldn't fish the Oakley Tournament at night. Quote
vapredhunter Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Night would be good cant imagine what the weights would look like . Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 so is that what all those guys are doing, night fishing for bass?? While on house boat we had 3-4 boats come by us with trolling motors but of course was too dark to see what they were doing. Didnt realize it was so popular! Quote

Night fishing is in my opinion best time bass fish here on SML. Right now its taking 20 lbs to win night tournys and only 10 to 12 during day tournys. After next week the summer boat traffic makes day time fishing tough on the weekends. Were you all pulling a white boat behind your house boat? Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Man i love SML as i caught few nice bass everyday hanging to wood. Not bad from fishing from a anchored house boat I love sight fishing and SML is place to do it! Ontop of that didnt realize all the laydowns / structure the lake has. Five-Alive Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Here is a story from today's Roanoke Times about the Oakley Big Bass tournament. Seems the angler with the top fish of the tournament had a tough break but answwered honestly on the polygraph when asked if he violated any game laws. He and his wife had failed to put on their life jacket and kill switch while idiling across a cove with the big motor and their catch was disqualified. http://www.roanoke.com/outdoors/wb/287531 Quote

This guy was in the tackle store Thursday expressing his opinion about how he was worried someone cheating and how he was concerned about being able to pass the polygraph while taking blood pressure medicine. I don't buy it I heard from 2 seperate sources the same story and neither had anything to do with life jackets! So as far as I'm concerned if he shows up at any tournaments I planning to fish I'll be sure to point him out to tournament directors!!!! Don't have any use for cheaters Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 heading to SML tomorrow afternoon through monday. work will be slammed and swamped in my department, and no i wont be feeling a bit guilty lol Quote

Don't have any use for cheaters wow - I hadn't heard all that. I can understand your feelings. I just wanted to point out the article. I fish n a few small clubs and although the life vest isn't a rule I have just always used them so it is just a no brainer with me. We had a club tournament Saturday night out of Penhook and it took 19 pounds and 10 ounces to win and then dropped back to 15 for 2nd. My son and I fished, we only had 3 keepers for 8.89 but did manage the smallmouth lunker at 3.31. We caught 4 stripers as well. Quote
