I like the MS american shad the best in RC2.5DD and moonsault CB200.

I would probably a few of the RC's, a few pointers, and a sammy or two.  With the Lucky Craft baits, at least for me, the color choice is the hardest part

I own a lot of Lucky Craft baits. It isn't that they actually catch more fish, its the consistency of identical baits that is the big selling point for me. I know if a Northern Pike takes off with my Pointer 100 in Aurora Black, that its backup will work exactly like the one I lost. I can't say the same for some other big name manufacturers.

To add to your list:

Pointer

Pointer DD

Gunfish

Staysee

Flash Minnow

LVR

and finally a new one I added to my box o' producing baits:

Slim Shad

Up here, we have alewife galore, so MS American Shad and Aurora Black work well.

Sammys and RCs are definitely awesome baits, but you should make sure to pick up a pointer as well, especially since you said you fish clear lakes. If you only get one pointer my suggestion would be size 100 in ghost minnow, you can't beat it in clear water. You can never go wrong with ghost minnow, chartreuse shad, American shad, or baby bass.

Check ebay. Sometimes you get lucky. Last year I picked up 4 live pointers, new in package, for $10.00 shipped.

Sammy: Aurora Black

Staysee: Ghost Minnow and Chart Shad

Slender Pointer: Ghost Minnow

RC 1.5: Chart Purple Back or Chart Black Back and Ghost Minnow

SK DD: Chart Shad

Total:  $110.00

So I have decided to spend some extra $$$ and pick a few of these up.

That's a good idea ;).

A while back I picked up a Sammy knock-off -$2 ;)! I changed the hooks on it and it fished well. I caught a bunch on it. SO I bought s'more :).

The next one sat tail straight down ::). Another lay on it's side ;). The third was tail down too >:).

So I took out the drill and epoxy and went to town. Took me all night  :o but I gave each one the proper attitude. -and new hooks of course.

A couple Sammy's would have saved me the trouble ;).

any of the baits are good, but dont buy the live pointers they suck bad...total junk.... the pointer 78 and 100 are great choices, atleast get one pointer in ghost shad...sammy is good in about any color..i like the small one...rc are good in ms american shad... all of em are good but the pointer 78 is the most dependable fish catcher for me

I rarely buy expensive baits because I often lose a crankbait here and there fishing it in weedy places, but I will agree on getting a couple of sammys and pointers. They look really nice. I don't spend enough time on the water fishing jerkbaits to tell you they out fish the x-raps. or any other lower cost jerkabaits. They are indeed really good eye candy though and I doubt you can go wrong in purchasing them.  ;)

I just picked up 11 of varietys of lucky crafts at joes for around 70-80 bucks. amazing deal on my part. they were having a 60% off sale and I live in oregon so theres no sales tax.  I would highy recommend getting some pointers and skeet reese deep and shallow divers.
