Called up shimano service to order a bearing for Curado E5 and an O-ring for Calcutta 50. Talk to the guy and gave him the part number and then he asked if there's anything else I needed, I answered that's it. Then he said it will be in the mail free of charge. Wow, I was stoked :blink: How can you beat that! :blink:

Shimano customer support is the best! Just saying. :D

My batting average with Shimano service is anything but good, have never been happy with them. They voided a warranty a couple of years ago on spheros 4000 as I didn't use their oil. Needing a roller bearing several months ago for my stradic 4000 they agreed to send me the part, order never shipped and they had no record. Sent reel in and they replaced bearing and cleaned my reel ( for free ), now the reel makes a racket but still smooth. Once this reel dies it's goodbye Shimano, for me there are better options.

That is the reason that I only fish Shimano. I work 2 min from their service/ warranty office in Montreal. 2 years ago I broke a cumara in a pre fish. I called them from my boat and they said come in tomorrow and we will have one for you. Went in the next day picked up my new rod, gave them the old one and continued my pre fish. They fix reels on the spot. The longest i ever had to wait was 4 days and it was on a crucial that the guide broke. In my situation they are my best choice no contest.

I know many people are very content with Shimano. I think their equipment is good for freshwater and some of their saltwater gear is more than respectable, but their service left me flat,other options out there I prefer.

I recently bought a new reel and compared side by side( several times with my rod)Shimano sagasso 6000 and Penn conquer 7000, I bought the Penn.

Weird. It only takes a friendly phone call, and they pretty much make everything right, every time.

Good luck with the Penn, I've never had any issue with Pure Fishing Inc. service either. Just call them, and they resolve the issue.

Same for Daiwa. Quantum....ehhh, I get the feeling they have more than their fair share of experience. Much is automated, and that's great, but you got to wonder why they built a space shuttle for customer service.

I never had a bit of problem using Shimano for freshwater fishing, excellent for the sweet water, I just can't say the same using their equipment in the brine. Pure fishing sets the bar for customer service imo.

Again, your experience is unique, as 90% of my saltwater customers use Shimano, about 40 reels ranging from Spheros on up to Trinidads. There's also a ton of inshore guys that send me Curado E's and D's and Stradic FE's, and I'm impressed with their durability in salt. Yeah, they get skunky, but no corrosion, outside the odd line roller or knob bearing.

Much of my experience with Pure Fishing, outside of older Abu reels, is repair by replacement.

I had the Curado 200E5 for almost two years and I use if for Saltwater Inshore fishing. It's the bearing in the pinion gear that needed replacement. It has that grainy feeling on the retrieve when pressure is applied. I was too lazy not to re-apply grease on that specific bearing to protect it from the elements since part of it is exposed when you remove the spool.

baluga, you should be able to load that bearing up with grease no problem. It won't affect casting distance, though it will butter up the retrieve, and protect it from salt water, and more importantly, the light freshwater rinses I hope you giving that reel.

Daiwa is also good. Their service center is only a mile and a half from where I live. I used to drop by and checking my Tierra Spinning and Coastal Inshore reels and they repair and clean them up for free except when they replace the bearings. But Shimano did something better when I had the discontinued Chronarch 50MG corroded after using several times it in Saltwater. I Called up Shimano and they said that I might had the old version of the 50MG, so I send it in and they replaced the body for free. Up to now my CH 50MG runs smooth like new. If only Daiwa can make their MG reels Saltwater approve and at lower price like Shimano, I might have gone back to Daiwa. Oh well can't have it all.

My first "good" baitcaster (don't remember what it was called but it was something like 69 dollars when I bought it) quit working on me after a few years. Sent it in to shimano to get it repaired ready to pay for it because I liked the reel. I get a new reel in the mail of the model that replaced the reel I had for free! So I got a new reel and an upgrade, no charge. It probably cost Shimano 10 dollars to do it but it earned them a lifelong customer, that's just smart buisness.

Have been doing business with Shimano for over 27 yrs.

They have always done CS that way...
