Super User clayton86 Posted May 16, 2011 Super User Posted May 16, 2011 By the looks of the guys I seen coming out of the field when I arrived at Ft drum today I have the feeling I'm gonna really hate that saying. Its calling for t storms for as far as the forcast goes right now. I'm so glad I don't have the 249 saw any longer because it will be a PITA to clean after these next 19 days. Quote
Fat-G Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 What do you carry now? I've always thought the SAW is a badass position, but it has to be heavy as a B. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 16, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 16, 2011 I carry a m4 because I'm in the turret with the M2 .50cal The saw was badass and sucked all at the same time its not as heavy as the 240B but the 240 didn't replace it no way it could unless we were all jacked like arnold in predator or rambo with the M60s. The saw fires the 5.56 belt fed from a plastic drum the 240b fires 7.62 belt fed from a ammo can or backpack like when I was in weapons squad. The saw is a Squad Automatic Weapon 2 per squad 3 squads per platoon not counting weapons squads. Weapons squad gets 2 m240b one goes with platoon sgt the other goes with platoon leader. This is all coming from infantry grunt stand point. Then u throw in the m203 guys per squad as well. The M203 is the only weapon system I haven't been issued that we use iv only fired them in basic and they were chalk rounds. Quote
SDoolittle Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Didn't the M240B replace the SAW? The M240B replaced the M60. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 16, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 16, 2011 240 m60 there both nasty weapon systems id actually rather be back in my original squad with this unit as a 240 gunner like I was fresh outa basic. I went from the 240 to the 249 saw to the m4. The only bad thing bout the guns is all the spare barrels and the tripods but that's what AGs are for. I definitly don't miss battle drills with the saw the dam bipods would get caught on everything yanking u every which way even with the collapsable stock and short barrels. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 17, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 17, 2011 Its not even raining today its that cold misty drizzle its almost worse then a down pour. We got 2 weeks till we get outa the class room and into the field so maybe it will be nicer then. The people I'm seeing come back now though are solid mud from head to toe front and back. Quote
