and since i have a $100 gift card from TW,i can get this set up for $70..

how can i go wrong or do better??

i'm going to hold off until for a couple days to see if anyone thinks i can do better...

Just don't buy lattes for a month and get the Citica.

Nothing wrong with the Caenan, but if you look hard, you could probably find a Citica for close to the price of a Caenan.

This. You can find Citica's for $90 TYD..The difference ia a plastic frame vs a aluminum frame.Citica is made in Japan ,the other is made in Malaysia.

i don't do the $6 lattes... that's the price of a decent crankbait..

i've found a couple Citica's on EBAY for around $100 right now...who knows what they'll end up goin for. is there that much difference between the 2 reels for a newbee baitcaster?

should i be leary of buying on EBAY?

Read post #4.

The trick to ebay is search "buy it now" with "lowest price & shipping" first.

Nothing to be leery of check there feedback most have thousands of good reviews.

yeah, I agree with Fat-G. Never used a Caenan, but the Citica will last you (if you take care of it) for a long time! Good luck and let use know what you went with.

Nothing to be too leary of with Ebay as long as you check the feedback of the seller. Just got a NIB Quantum Kinetic PT off ebay for $60 so there are deals on there and just have to search for them.

Only problem with that is Shimano is rarely included in the memorial day sales. Including a few other brands. :(

I don't own a Caenan and had never used one until the other day. The local tackle shop had one setup on a Compre along with a Curado/Crucial. There was a cup setup and I tried a few pitches with each. The Caenan definitely surprised me, it seemed like a very smooth reel and I didn't have any trouble pitching a 3/8oz weight a good distance.

With that being said, if you can afford to spend a little more or shop around for a used reel I would recommend trying to go find something with an aluminum frame. Some recommendations would be a Revo S, Citica E, Bass Pro Pro Qualifier or a BPS Carbonlite. I have owned all of these at one point and wouldn't hesitate to pick up another of any model. As for which one, I feel it really boils down to personal preference. I wasn't too fond of the way the Citica felt in hand and was a little disappointed with the Revo's performance. If you can look past the Bass Pro label the Pro Qualifier and Carbonlite are really some great reels. You get a LOT of features usually only found on reels double their price and when setup correctly the dual braking is incredibly easy to cast, even for beginners.

The Carbonlite is lightweight, has a carbon handle/eva foam grips and the DBS. The PQ is heavier but comes in a wide variety of gear ratios. If I was looking to pickup a NIB reel around $100 I would pick either of the BPS reels without a second thought. If you shop around you could also pickup a lightly used Curado or Revo SX/STX for not much more.

Aluminum vs Graphite body, the Citica will outlast the Caenan. There are a couple of new Citica 200e on eBay with Buy It Now for $99.99 free shipping, and a few in the $70-$80 range with free shipping that close in a couple of days. I've purchased a number of slightly used Citicas from eBay without any problems. Look for reputable sellers that have 99+% feedback. Don't be afraid to ask the seller questions and use a credit card via Paypal with some buyer's protection, don't rely on eBay's Buyer Protection. PM me if you can't find them, I have no affiliation to the sellers. TW should honor the sale if you call in your order.

thanks for all the good advice..

so here's what i'm doing..

goin' with a Citica

bidding now on EBay for one. if i don't get it i will get one of the "buy it now" ones

and hoping TW has a sale for memorial day before i place order for the Compre. even if Shimano isn't included in sale...i know i will pick up some line for my new set up and other "bait monkey" items that will be on sale.. B)

thanks for all the great ideas/feedback

can't wait to learn how to throw a BC. i'm so ingrained in my spinning gear. it will be a learning curve, i'm sure.

Its a lot of fun.

I was very much a spinning gear guy for while. I tried a bait cast setup at the beginning of last year. It was frustrating at first.

As long as you practice, aren't afraid to make a couple mistakes, and don't get discouraged - you'll be all set.

I don't use my spinning or bait cast set ups exclusively. For me, they each have applications they are better suited for.
