throwback Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I'm new here, kinda new to bass fishing. Been posting here and getting good feedback. I have just about got the baitcasting reels down pat. No backlashes in a week! I practice every day in the pond behind my house. I need to know what the rigs I have are good for, and what else I may need to get for Fathers Day. I've got an Ugly Stik 6'6" that is medium with a Diawa Exceler 6.3:1 reel and 30 lb braid. Just purchased a BPS Pro Qualifier rod that is medium heavy with a BPS Pro Qualifier 6.4:1 reel. I want one more rod/reel combo for around $200. I'm thinking of the Shimano Citicia 200E, maybe in a faster or slower ration than the two above. Looking at a 7'6" rod, but not sure which one to get. Thinking of the BPS Carbonlie trigger rods but don't know what weight or action to get it in. Anyway, what would you add to what I already have? For baits I have shallow crankbaits, spinners, buzzers, top water, stick worms, super flukes, frogs, bush hogs, hollow-body swim baits, and rat-l-traps. What type fishing is best with the combos I have? Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 16, 2011 Super User Posted May 16, 2011 I have 2 carbonlites one medium and one medium heavy and am getting another medium heavy this weekend. I recommend the medium heavy carbonlite. Its been good to me for jigs, shallow to medium cranks, and rattle traps. The pro qualifier reels are also pretty good for the price range your in. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Glad you are enjoying the Exceler and sounds like a 7' rod either MH or H would be your next rod. My crankbait rods are either M/MF or MH/MF for my baitcasting setups for shallow to mid divers which for me is upto about 10 feet. Select it based on the technique you fish the most and think you will get the most use out of when fishing. My longest rod is 7' but thats due to transporting issues since I fish from the shore and anything longer would be hard to transport. Quote
