Friday and Saturday I was able to do some topwater bank fishing and had some really nice results. Saturday I hooked into one I knew was a quality fish, I'm guessing in the 3-4 lbs range when I saw her at the surface . When I hooked her I knew I had to get her past a wall of weeds about 1' - 2' below the surface, so I tried to skate her in fast and kept my rod tip low so she wouldn't jump. Well, she dove on me and got me in those weeds. I tried everything to get her out, but she unbuttoned on my spook jr. I was trying not to apply too much pressure while she was in there, but, well, it was too much pressure.

Any suggestions as to what I could have done differently? Fish, weeds and treble hooks is not a good recipe. :)

A long stiff rod, braid, and a strong reel and keep your rod tip up if you are trying to horse them out of the weeds..

Strong braid is a must all the spots I fish are packed with grass and lilly pads I wouldent catch hardly any fish if it wasn't for heavy rods and 50lb braid to rip or drag em outa that crap

Keep your tip up, and keep reeling, even if it jumps. You want to get that fish up and over the weed line ASAP.

Once it's on a shorter leash, you can let it dig in a bit.

Bingo!

The key is keeping the rod tip up.

Ahh, a tactical error made by me. I'm so used to keeping my rod down to keep the fish from jumping, I guess I wasn't thinking based on the circumstance. I guess that wall of weeds really psyched me out.

I'll know better next time. Thanks for your help all. :)
