RWHusker. Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Please give feedback on Red colored hooks. Do you use them, Why and When? Thanks! Quote
Gorgebassman Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I use them if they come on a bait that the company sells that way but I dont buy any for use like with t-rigs or dropshots etc. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 17, 2007 Super User Posted February 17, 2007 I dont think there is a difference, they both work! Quote
Guest Feel_The_Steel Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I have fished both and have not noticed a sizable difference. Quote
BassBeat101 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I use both colors, but it's really more of a confidence thing for me I guess. I use the option of hook color in the same vein as using Spike-It for a shot of chartreuse on a tail or red marker on a crankbait. If I want a bit smaller profile, I'll go with a darker hook. Flashier, bloodier, whatever, red hook. I catch a few fish on each, but I never really experiment with just one color for extended amounts of time. Daryl Quote
Guest avid Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I use them both, basically because one daichi hook seems to only be available in red at my local walmart. there are times I think it matters. Then there are times I don't. So I gues my answer is that if you think it matters, then it matters. If you don't, then it don't. Quote
paparock Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I use them Both and sometimes I only use one on the front or rear depending on what I am trying to accomplish. Quote
CrazedL.IFisherman Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I definitely like red hooks on soft plastics in shallow water less than 5 feet deep Quote
cbfishalot Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I use both at times but I really don't think it makes a huge difference. I will only place them on the front of a bait. I don't want to draw any attention to anything except the middle (sweet spot) of the bait. I don't want the fish to hit the rear hook so if the red promotes a strike I want it to be on the front hook. I think if it is true that red disappears at nine feet then it may make a difference in shallow water. I will use red hooks when fishing plastics at times also. This is just to change up and to give me added confience and focus. It also give the bait a different look even though it might be so slight. I don't really believe in the whole blood trail thing. Thats just my opinion and many people believe different things about fishing with red hooks. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 18, 2007 Super User Posted February 18, 2007 I use both but I really don't know if it makes a differance. Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Red on flukes and white or shad clored baits. Black nickel on all other palstics when not trying to represent a shad. This keeps it simple. Quote
Evan Pease Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I only use red hooks if im fishing a plastic with red flakes in it. On cranks I might wind up with one if Im replacing rusty hooks but I dont make a point to use them. Quote
crankybaits Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I've found that the red chip pretty easily, so i normally use the black. Quote
0119 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Never, I dont agree with the hype. From my experience when the red flakes off underneath it is a gold hook, very soft just like an aberdeen bream hook. I tried those cheap Eagle Claw laser sharp red offset hooks walmart sells. One fish and the point is either dulled or rolled over. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 19, 2007 Super User Posted February 19, 2007 I use Mustad's Denny Brauer Flipping Hook and they don't come in red Quote
Bass Smacker Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I don't know if it matters if you use red or black. But I do know that once the red flakes and the gold starts showing you will get bit less. You wont have that problem with the black... Just my .02 Quote
boondocks Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 They are used more for catching fisherman than fish.IMO Quote
NaterD Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I agree with that last statement. I also tried some of those eagle claws last summer and was NOT impressed. I've heard of this in conjunction with Cajun Red Line... which i know nothing of. I'd say there is no diff IMO as well. Quote
Curado Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I use both and haven't really found a noticable difference. Quote
JigNBig Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 use red colored hooks for shakey or alabama rigs. it makes a HUGEdifference dead serious. Quote
