Hiram Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I am looking to buy a new reel. BPS has 2 reels for $80, the Browning Citori and Quantum KVD sig series 1100. The price seems to be right. What would be some of the pros and coms. Thanks Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 13, 2011 Super User Posted May 13, 2011 The citori is a good reel. I fished with a few older ones that were very good. I haven't fished the new ones but I love the new stylings and profile. I don't know about the KVD reel, I prefer not to buy signature series stuff, it never seems to be of very good quality, no matter who makes it. Id say the Citori would be a good buy. Quote
NBR Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Although I don't have a KVD reel a fishing friend has several and loves them! Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Between the 2 choices I would go with the Browing Citori over the KVD model. I haven't used either but as KY stated I would stay away from the signature series reels. I have used the BPS exclusive signature spinning reel of the same series and returned it for the particular Quantum reel I wanted. Quote
21farms Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 outdoor pro shop has the okuma cayenne reel on sale for $70 (regularly $140). you also get free shipping and there's another $20 mail-in rebate on top of that. i used one yesterday and they're smooth. i think a better value for the money than either of the others you're considering, especially since the cayenne has ABEC-5 spool bearings. FisinCrazee Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 BPS also has their Pro Qualifier BCR on sale for $79.97 and is worth taking a look at. Has a couple of good features and seem to be a good reel. I have both ABU and Shimano reels and use the Pro Qualifier equally. Quote

hatrix Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 You should check out lews. They have some very nice reels and the speed spool is really nice for $80. Quote
AndyPlaysDrums Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I have a Cabela's Tournament ZX, which is Daiwa made, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. They're $70 normally, and on sale pretty frequently. Quote
21farms Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 andy, i'm pretty sure the OP is looking at a baitcaster, not a spinning reel. hiram, as to your question about pros/cons, i can think of a con on the KVD reel and it's the same gripe i have with most recent quantum reels...there's a bulge in the sideplate where the magnetic control dial is that just sticks unconfortably into my palm (and i have large hands). if you don't palm your reels, then this isn't a concern. some people who do palm their reels say it doesn't bother them but it caused me to sell my catalyst. Super User webertime Posted May 16, 2011 Super User Posted May 16, 2011 I thought the KVD was a Quantum Code with 3 more bearings. For that sort of $$$ a Pro Qualifier hands down. Quote
