so i was in the store today lookin at some spiderwire stealth braid. i was looking at the 10# but it said diameter of 2# mono... so does that mean its as strong as 2# mono?

Would a thinner diameter of braid give me more sensitivity? i've used flouro for a few years now and i really enjoy what the line bring to the table.. except the sinking.. which is another reason for braid.

from what i understand is that braid behaves like mono on top of water right?

would it be smart to get a braid/flouro mix? do they even make that?

i normally use between 8# to 12# flouro/mono, what pound braid would substitute these?

thanks for any input!! smile.gif

10# braid may be the same diameter as 2# mono, but most 10# braid will have a breaking strength over 10#...sometimes quite a bit more. They don't make a mixed line of braid/fluoro. Most 30# braid is the equivalent diameter of 8# mono while 50# braid will be equivalent to #12 mono.

Edit: Braid requires some tension to transmit feel. Flourocarbon is more sensitive than braid on slack line due to its density. So I've read. :D

do not buy stealth.if you want a floating braidd buy fireline braid.if you want a sinking braid get sufix 832.powerpro is outdated as are most other braids.the fireline and sufix are the two smoothest and roundest braids out there.

Seriously! How much is Berkley paying you?

PowerPro is great, I use it and love it.

Braid is not very abrasive resistant. Flouro is. Use a leader when fishing an area where line abrasion is a problem.

Having experimented with many brands of braided polyethylene,

my recommendation would be Berkley Fireline Braid (not fused Fireline).

With respect to 'line visibility', a leader is not necessary, in fact braid is so thin

that line-watching can be difficult, which is why I use Berkley Fireline Tracer Braid

If you're fishing in rocks or shellbeds then a fluoro leader might be needed for abrasion-resistance.

I use outdated Power Pro, it's available everywhere and I like the price. Not that I don't bass fish, I do and catch some mighty nice ones and it's a lot of fun, but the majority of my fish are caught in saltwater. Many people I'm sure have not read my posts or seen pics as they are in the " other species " section. With that said many of my fish are pretty hefty and strong fighters, all caught with nothing more than outdated 20# Power Pro on spinning gear. I don't seem to run into problems that I read on here, bent hooks, broken line, floating line, sinking line, use but 2 knots ( clinch & loop )the list is endless of problems that people seem to encounter. I just go fishing and don't think or worry about much, whether it be freshwater or saltwater, I just let it happen.

Ok, first off the reason for a fluoro leader is a highly debatable subject. Some use it for a less visible presentation and some use it for better abrasion resistance in rocks and such. Some use it for both. That includes me. Another reason is getting hung up, the leader will break off where you don't lose so much line. I don't use braid on spinnerbaits, cranks, topwaters pretty much anything with trebles or drop-shot and some finesse techniques.

I've tried every reputable brand braid out there. These are just my thoughts...

PowerPro is bombproof but makes some noise going through the guides. It's a very good line.

Sufix 832 has performed very well for me, similar to PowerPro but is alot less noisy...still not perfect.

Daiwa Samurai is the cream of the crop when noise and smoothness are concerned. It's like silk but in my opinion it's not as strong or abrasion resistant as PP or Sufix. Still very strong line though. I think it's rated breaking strength is accurate but PP and Sufix 832 by far surpass their breaking strengths. PP's strength to diameter ratio is insanely high. Like I said before, it's bombproof.

I'm still using both PP and Sufix 832 and like both alot. Hope this helps.

I like that Snook...outdated PowerPro. That's what I'm going to call it from now on.

Alex- I forgot to add that I'll probably go back to all Outdated PowerPro when my 832 wears out...it's gonna be awhile though I bought two spools.

well, while i was out i picked up some power pro 20# as well as the brand i havent seen a whole lot of Vicious braid and i picked up this brands flouro. i also purchased a nice shiny new baitcaster for the new braid. and have my old BC that has only been fished with twice for the vicious brand.

i really wanted to get the braid and such to see what all the hype is with the BC and high # braid.

thanks all for your suggestions. i got a buddy on his way to pick up some suffix braid right now.

why would you go back tto powerpro.sufix 832 blows it away.i don't hate powerpro.i used to use it.isn't the point of these forums to become aware of better performing products?powerpro had it's time as the number one braid.there are far better braids available.why read these forums if you're gonna stay stuck in a rut.

It's all a matter of opinion. There is no right answer. You may hate it, others may like it.

you can like it all you want.i like 55 chevies.they are still outdated.it's not an insult it's just a fact.powerpro is a rough 4 strand not round outdated braid.sufix 832,fireline braid and diawa braid are all modern smooth round 8 strand braids.this makes them dig less and handle better than any outdated 4 strand braid.maybe we should all go back to a stick and bobber with 10 feet of string.

You're new here. You'll soon see there are alot of brand loyal guys here. Don't get discouraged. Try different suggestions that people make and form your own opinion. Me, I have outdated Power Pro on a spinning reel but my baitcasters are spooled with Diawa Samuari. I use a flouro leader on everything but topwater, for reasons mentioned above.

That is an opinion. I don't like 832 at all. The point of the forum is for everyone to state there opinion and give others help. There's no law against going back to PowerPro, I have done it on several occasions.

Agreed 100% except one thing...dodge is the only loyal Fireline Braid man LMAO!!!!

and another thing...Sufix 832 is nothing special. It's a little quieter and smoother than PP but no technological marvel.

well, while i was out i picked up some power pro 20#

"PowerPro" was the first braided polyethylene I've ever used. I include the word "polyethylene"

because before the introduction of Super Line I fished a lot with "braided dacron" & "braided nylon"

in saltwater. Anyway for about 3 years I was in love with PowerPro (I'm sure many BR members recall).

Then my wife and I began to experience inexplicable break-offs and lost a few good bass

in the process. I told my wife that the fault was ours, and that she should monitor her line

more closely. Well, I wound up eating crow because we eventually learned that we were

dealing with a bad batch. PowerPro was above board and not only offered me a free

1500-yd spool, but admitted that they had a production problem with their bulk spools.

I refused their offer and switched instead to Berkley Fireline Tracer Braid. I'm glad I did,

because it was the little push I needed to discover a superior line. In any case,

I'm willing to bet that you will not encounter a bad batch and will be happy with PowerPro. ;)
