Hey everybody! New member here and this is my first post. I live on the south shore of MA and am looking for some good little spots to catch some fish- bass, pickerel, catfish etc. I have a canoe to take out on weekends but like to hit up new places at dusk when I get out of work during the week and do some shore fishing. Looking for suggestions on places from Milton down to Marshfield where I can hook up without a boat. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey Bass Protege. First, welcome to Bass Resource, glad to have you aboard.

It doesn't sound like I'm very far from you. I fish Houghton's pond a lot in Milton, as a matter of I fact I recently caught my personal best (PB) large mouth bass ever out of there. It's a bank only fishing pond, but there is a path around the pond with a lot of accessible holes to fish out of. It has a very good bass, pickerel and trout population.

Not far from there, you can go to Ponkapoag Pond. There is access there to fish from a canoe and has a very good population of bass and pickerel.

You can hit Ames Pond in Stoughton. Same species as above.

Buckmasters in Westwood. I used to fish there a lot, but haven't in the past 2 seasons or so.

Norton Res in Norton. Big bass in there. I should be hitting that soon with a buddy.

There are more, but those are on top of my brain right now...LOL

Awesome! Thanks a lot, thinking I will check out Houghton soon. I appreciate the help.

Send me a PM, I'm 6 miles from there, maybe we can meet up someday. I'll show you some spots where the hogs hang out...well from time to time they hang out. :D

-back entrance to Braintree high there's a piece of sunset lake you can fish from shore, jams up with weeds later on but now it will be open.

-West St in Braintree- from Granite St go down near the industrial parks and on the left is a little dirt road there's water in there its ok

-Bolivar St in Canton there's a piece of Forge Pond you can fish from shore -look for the stone wall

Can't give em all away :D but that's a couple good after work spots in that area.

Wahoo my first post!

Thanks for the help everybody. I hit Houghton's pond after work today and didn't have any luck but was only there for about an hour. Heading out early in the morning to hit a pond in Plymouth for the day so hopefully will have some more luck then.

I'm not sure what part of Houghton's Pond you fished, but right now bass are on the southern and western part of the pond. East and north are loaded with pickerel right now.

Hey Bass Protege and Jigfishn10. I have a chance to spend a few days in Easton, MA in early June and would be happy to join you if you go for bass fishing during June 1-4, 2011. Are there some good places near Easton? Norton Res is probably the nearest one from the list. What fishing tackle would you recommend in early June this year for those places in your list?

Ahven, welcome to the site!

If you hit Houghton's you'll probably get into some spawners. The recent weather we had did not help much this past week, but it may start to heat up in the next week or 2.

Right now topwater has been really good. Just about anything you have will work. Mid-day I'll would throw some jigs or t-rigs.

I was supposed to hit Norton last wek, but never made it. If you can get to some coves, I'm hearing that the fishing has been good.

I'm not sure if I'll be around, but I will post here later in the week to let you know.

Good luck and I hope to see you around the site! :)

Jigfishn10, thanks for the prompt reply. I will for sure try at least several places from your list during my four vacation days. :-)

Near Easton? Try IN Easton.

Puds pond and also Leach Pond are excellent. You can reach them both through Borderland State Park. I caught a nice Large mouth in Leach pond this past weekend. I live down the street so it's excellent. I tried New Pond last week but not too much was happening that particular day. Also there are some great places in Norton and also Foxboro.

Right now i'm using 5 inch senkos on a wacky rig and hitting some good stuff.

Also if you fish in Borderland or New Pond it might be best to hook up with a Texas style rig. There are a lot of Lilly pads out there.

I happened to be in the Milton area today and with a spare couple hours this afternoon, so I headed over to Houghtons Pond. Caught a couple around 1.5lbs-2lbs one on a senko the other on a flappin hog, didn't get to much action other than that. Talking to a couple of others that were on the pond and everyone said it was dead today.

I will definitely be back as it's only about 20-25 mins from me.

No problem, Man. I maybe at Houghton's on Thursday after work. I'll show you some spots if you want to join me.

It looks like I have a chance to visit Houghton's pond tonight, hope to see you there.

I managed to stop by there again this afternoon/evening. 4 bass nothing picture worthy and 1 pickerel. Caught 2 on Ice White Fluke, 2 White spinnerbait with green and white skirt and senko.

I won't be able to get there, but concentrate on the southern and western sides of the pond. Bass will be on the outer edges of the weed lines and around some lily pads.

Thanks for this advice. I paid more attention to the southern part and was awarded with a good bass using Kermy Tree Frog. Tried the same places on Friday morning without success. :-(

I fished there a couple of days prior and the bass are in post spawn, so they are a little harder to catch. I did mange to get a few on a jig and twin tail grub, but none would take a spinnerbait or spook jr. Lots of pickerel on the spook jr made the day a bit more interesting.

They will be back along the outside weed edges, mostly on points and inside turns pretty soon. Low light conditions will have them moving a bit more along these weed edges where you can get your topwaters and spinnerbait type lures to work for you.

Here are a couple representative bass I caught there:

Good luck if you do venture down there again!
