I've been fishing the local lake for nearly 15 years, the last 5 fairly heavily. The lake is stocked with trout and has a good population of largemouth bass and some smallies.

Today I was out with a friend and we were trolling for trout. I was using a tiny, Yo-Zuri Snap Bean and hooked into this fish.

I was using UL tacke with 2 lb test so it took over 10 minutes to land the thing. All the while we were wondering what the heck it was because it never jumped but was putting up an incredible fight with many deep dives. We were guessing it was a large walleye, but surprise, surprise, a striper.

Neither of us has caught a striper in the lake in all the years we've been fishing there nor have we heard of anybody else catching one. Didn't even know they were in the lake.

Has anybody else ever been totally surprised by something they caught? What was it?

At a few of the spots I fish around the 3 rivers here is Pittsburgh, they have pulled bodies from the exact spots I have fished. Just yesterday on the news a man was fishing at a park near a launch ramp in Pitt on the Mon river, and pulled in a chunk of hair. Testing confimed it to be human. Fished there many times.

Another spot on the Allegheny river they pulled a car out with the remains of a man who had been missing for 3 years. The vehicle was completly covered in snagged fishing line. No doubt some of which was mine.

I find both cases to be shocking. It kind of freaks me out you know?

Not a fish, but Id certaily be surprised if I pulled in a chunck of someone. Maybe shocked and horrified would better describe the feeling.

But then again, imagine the cats you could catch with a chunk of.........nah

Caught a catfish fishing for crappie just this winter. She was over 20lbs and I was fishing with 4lb test and a 2" power minnow on a tiny 1/32oz jighead. Fought her for almost an hour.
