Flangler Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Why is bass fishing so addicting? Is it the bite? Is it the not knowing of what your going to hook into? For me its the thrill of catching a bass on artificial baits, regardless of the size. The art of fooling the fish into striking something that isn't real! Some days its sooo simple, other days...other days you wish you had the one bait that those fish couldn't resist. What do all you bassers think?? Quote
HAWGHUNTER88 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I'm with you on this one. Catching fish on artificals! Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 Funny you mention this... I was nothing but a trout fisherman until a few years ago when a buddy finally talked me into going out bass fishing. Now I fish for bass 90%+ of the time. For me it's a combination of the chance to catch a bunch of fish and not knowing if it's a 10 incher or a 5 pounder picking up my drop shot. Quote
Flangler Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Thats what I'm talking about! It's the unknown....whether it be a dink to momma, it's the same feeling across the board! A bass is a bass whether how big it is.... Quote
Greed Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I'm a line watcher when it comes to Bass fishing. I get a rush every time I see/feel a tick in my line followed by the adrenaline fueled big daddy hook set. Quote

DJHolly22 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 for me its strike and the split second of is it a bite or a snag and then the fight, the fight is what i live for Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 I know I'm usually going to get some action and it's fun to have a nice sized bass jump a couple of times on you. I know at anytime my rod is going to get a nice bend in it, that keeps my interest high. For me bass fishing is relaxation. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 Challenging Relaxing Exciting Fun Change of pace from the real world Lots of great tackle Meet some wonderful people Have somethng in common with people in all walks of life and economic levels Making new friends for life Doing something for your self and not others including family members Becasue you can!!!!!! Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 Strickly relaxiation and the thrill of the next biggun. Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I have to say the strike. A 2 pounder can hit the lure just as hard as a 5 pounder, keeps you guessing. Also the feeling you get when you get a new PB. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 I started as a flyfisher for trout and there was nothing like a trout rising for a dry, but the season was too short here in MA at the waters I fished in. I started bass fishing with a Rebel Pop - R. All it took was one explosion by a bass and that was it, I'm all in...LOL Quote
SausageFingers Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 For me, its the initial feeling of the strike and the hook set. It never gets old. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 To me I think because its cheap. You can go for your first time for under 100 dollars. All you would need a rod and reel combo, line, hooks, live bait, and a fishing licenses. Compare fishing to a lot of other hoobys of mine. Fishing is by far the the cheapest. 1 Quote
Jim McC Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I don't think bass fishing is addicting at all, really. Musky fishing is VERY addicting though. Once you catch a big musky, that's all you want to fish for. Up until about 5 years ago, musky fishing is all I did. But I can't anymore because of my back. I have to stand to musky fish, and my back won't allow it. Quote
Captin Obvious Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 The thrill of landing that big fish is unequaled, its like winning the championship And I want it over and over and over and over and...............You get the point(and over) Capt.O Quote
piscicidal Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Jim McC, I can totally relate....my parents live near Leech Lake. For about two years of my life I had "musky fever" really bad. In my lifetime I've probably fished Walleye 10X more than I've fished bass. Truth be told I am (currently) a much better walleye fisherman than a bass fisherman. I used to be positively obsessed with walleye fishing, but the last couple years I've switched my obsession to bass fishing. The main appeal for me is all the different techniques: frogs, topwater, swimbaits, T-rig, C-rig, drop shot, jigging, flipping, pitching, punching, crankbaits, etc, etc... My favorite part about fishing (whether its musky, walleye, bass, etc..) is pieceing together the puzzle: finding the fish and then presenting the bait in the most effective way possible. The fight/catch are almost non-climatic for me. Quote

Where i spent hours catching nothing and the lightbulb went off. Running and gunning from spot to spot and watching my pattern actually work! Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 It's addicting to some. Many find it too much work. I love it because it's a challenge. Different bass species, so many ways to fish for them, different venues, can fish 9 months a year for them, clubs, tournaments for those who like the experience and bass are great sport !!! Did I mention the stuff ????? If you are a stuff freak, there is no fish that can meet your desire to acquire stuff. Bass anglers are kindred spirits and love to share their experiences. For the most part, those I have met, to include many here on the forum, are incredible people, colorful, helpful, accomodating and giving. Being exposed to those kind of quality folks is what's addicting. Oh, I don't fish bass for the " tic tic ".....I fish them for the KAHDUNK and the TWONNNGGGGGGGG. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted May 12, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted May 12, 2011 I think for me it is the puzzle solving. You are kind of playing detective every time you go out. Solve the mystery = catching fish. Quote

Where i spent hours catching nothing and the lightbulb went off. Running and gunning from spot to spot and watching my pattern actually work! YES!! The satisfaction you get when you've put together all the pieces is what gets me geeked out. It's not even about the catching, for me. one of my most satisfying trips was a trip this winter after a really nasty cold front...I caught about 15 fish with my best five going MAYBE 9lbs. But that 9lb sack felt like 25, that day. I talked to five guys that day at the landing and they all caught zero. Again, the fight/catching is almost anti-climatic for me. For me it's about the satisfaction you get knowing that that all the knowledge, equipment, effort, and preparation that you have were put to good use. Quote
Jim McC Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 We used to do a lot of night musky fishing. You can't believe how it feels when a 40" musky hits right at the boat on a surface lure. You can't see the lure, you just hear it coming on the top. You need to bring extra undies, and you better have a strong heart. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 13, 2011 Super User Posted May 13, 2011 No different than crack my friends. You get a taste and you want more. Get a 2 pounder, you want a 3. Get a 3 pounder you want a 4, and so on. I think you all need help. Quote
luv2fish33 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Hello everyone, my name is Bobby and I am a fishing addict. I can pretty much say that no intervention will save me from this fishing addiction. I got hooked when I was just in grade school after catching my first brim off a night crawler and ever since then I have done nothing but try to scheme my next fishing adventure. Quote
tdc rangemaster Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Because its not easy. You spend a lifetime gaining knowledge and experience and there is still alot of magic to it when it all comes together, It's very satisfying. When that big one hits It's an adrenalin rush thats hard to equal. Quote
