Scorcher214 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Is there any lure that is as good as an suspending x-rap but perhaps cheaper? Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 I don't understand "cheaper"? They retail for about $7.00. That's not really expensive, in my opinion. Especially with such an effective tool as the X-Rap. It certainly is a long way from a LC Pointer, being almost 50% cheaper. I think you might be able to get a Husky Jerk for a dollar or two less? Bomber makes a pretty inexpensive substitute jerk bait too. And if you want to put on your own split rings and hooks, Netcraft (wwwjannsnetcraft.com) sells just the bodies of similar hard jerks at a very reasonable cost. Good luck! Quote
Scorcher214 Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 well the ones at sports authority were 10.95. maybe, just a bad store. Quote
CODbasser Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 tons of good jerkbaits out there...if you dont mind spending the money the lc pointers are worth it Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 Have you looked at any of this sites sponsers for better prices..? well the ones at sports authority were 10.95. maybe, just a bad store. Quote

bass wrangler569 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 When you go below an x-rap, you have a noticeable dropoff in performance IMO. Both the x-raps and pointers are excellent jerkbaits. You can find them cheaper than $10 on ***.com. If around $7 is still more than you would like to spend, I would recommend trying rogues. Or, more ideally if you're one of the lucky SOBs that have an academy near buy I would go get some of their jerkbaits. From what I've seen and heard they're pretty sick for the price. Quote
skillet Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Have never got to use any Lucky Craft baits, can't comment on them. Like bass wrangler said when you go below X-raps (lesser degree Husky Jerks) performance drops. My experience, other baits won't run as true or suspend as well... skillet Quote

A good one to try is the pointer 100sp in chartreuse shad. It works well in both clear and stained water. That one lure covers about 75% of my jerkbait fishing. Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I f you ABSOLUTLEY cant afford a x rap, get a rogue or thunderstick. but rogues are good. i have caught TONS of fish on a rogue. But if you have an academy around like basswrangler said you should try their jerkshad. Quote
Super User CWB Posted May 26, 2009 Super User Posted May 26, 2009 Stick with the X-Rap. Great bait and actually reasonable compared to some others. Quote
Primus Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I have heard some positive feedback on the Bass Pro brand but I haven't tried them yet. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I have heard some positive feedback on the Bass Pro brand but I haven't tried them yet. If your talking about the standard $4 xps jerkbaits, the jerkbaits themselves arent terrible but the hooks completely suck. If your talking about their pro series or whatever they call it they're okay but at that same price you could get an x-rap which performs better Quote
Primus Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Even if you change out the hooks, depending on the brand and number of trebles you are only adding app. 1-2 dollars to the overall cost, so a 4$ bait now runs app 5-6 dollars, still pretty inexpensive. That said, I haven't used the Bass Pro brand but I agree the X-rap is a great bait. I wish Rapala would add some tranluscent colors like Ghost Minnow to round out their selection. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 X2 on the translucent x-rap colors. I would fish them more than I do if they came in some more realistic colors like ghost minnow. Quote
