AllAroundAngler Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 What do people mean exactly when they say "i use 10lb mono, and 30lb braid"....Does that mean a leader used for bass fishing? Myself, I use 6-8lb line to fish bass. Just wondering because this is the first time I have heard of people using more than 12lb test for bass fishing. (But I am a novice compared to most on this forum) Quote
Hamby Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Braid is a lot thinner than other lines. I think 20lb braid is the same diameter as 6lb mono. 30lb is the same diameter as 8lb mono. So said person uses 10lb mono, or 30lb braid. 10lb braid would be much too thin. Quote
brushhoggin Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 it all depends on what you're fishing with, and where. so many variables. whats your favorite way to fish? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 10, 2011 Super User Posted May 10, 2011 I fish braid and imo it's much stronger than mono, plus i dislike the stretch. For bass I use 10 and 15# braid, I feel anything stronger than that is way too much. If using a leader of less breaking strength than your main line, that's your breaking point. I use a heavier leader,(20#mono)gives me a solid chain both for fish and snags. I won't use anything but spinning gear, I'm not a fan of drag & hoist with heavy gear and line. Quote
dulouz Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I started using braid this year so I could get a strong line with a thin diameter. I use 10#/2 on my light spinning reels and 20#/6 on my MH spinning and all of my baitcasters. Braid has it's downfalls, but the advantages by far outweigh them. Quote
