Bass Dude Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Just looking for opinions on why Skeet's bombing this year. I can't believe after last year's performance that he's doing so bad. I guess this sport humbles all of us at times. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 9, 2011 Super User Posted May 9, 2011 Yes it is a very humbling sport. Quote
Shad_Master Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I've thought about this some. I wonder if the AOY format last year left a sour taste in Skeet's mouth - I know it did mine. There is no way he should have been shut out of the AOY, but he was. I believe he will be back, but a blow like that takes time to heal. Quote
Sfritr Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I believe there are many reasons for his lackluster year. All justifiable. All of the answers I am sure revolve around his branding. He may be focussing more on branding himself to ensure his financial well being is solid. He is doing more with equipment and lure design, probably more speaking and seminars, Commercials, family, etc. A man has to eat and tournament bass fishing isn't easy. Many of the pros make the majority of their money after they do well in tourneys. It is just a catalyst to the bigger money as their name becomes THEIR brand. Look at Ike, he has really dropped off in terms of tournament standings. He isn't fishing as much but he is all over with his show, doing pieces in magazines, etc. I can't fault these guys for trying to make money for their families Quote
shootermcbob Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 He is having a down year. Not sure why, only he could really answer that question. Last year was no fluke in my opinion, although the elite tour did play to his strengths with two tourneys in California. I like him and think he will be back. One thing about him, he certainly can be an emotional guy. I think maybe last years disappointment may have sapped his "batteries" a bit. Quote
SausageFingers Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Im sure he'll rebound. The difference between being at the top and the middle of the pack in this sport, especially at the level he competes at, is very small. Sometimes a single break can really get you going. Look at Ish this season and KVD at the beginning of last season. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted May 11, 2011 Super User Posted May 11, 2011 Didnt a thread come up exactly like this one last year that was about why KVD was doing so bad and then he came back and won AOY? I haven't looked at the point standings so I assume Skeet is too far out to make a comeback? Quote
