Remember the feeling of doubt you got when Uncle Fred told you about "The One That Got Away"? Remember how entertaining it was? I want to hear your stories of that big lunker that just didn't make into your boat.

My Grandfather moved from West Virginia to Florida when he was in his prime fishing years in hopes of catching the bass of a lifetime. After years of getting used to all the snakes and aligators he finally landed a ten pounder. The fish was so big, my Grandmother named him Jonah in reference to the Bible. Grandpa's fish story included the motor boat being pulled through the lillies for miles. In his pride he immediately submitted it to a local taxidermist. The next week he went fishing again and Lo and Behold, he landed a thirteen and a half pounder. His only story of that trip was, "That one, it was good eatin'!" And that was the largest Largemouth Bass he ever got on the boat. Grandpa passed away in 1982, but we still have Jonah, the ten pounder.

So what's your story?

Seventy of you looked at this and none of you have a good story to tell about your fishing trips? Come on, now.

Here's another one. We had a friend named Andrew who was deathly afraid of snakes and aligators so he always carried a .45 revolver when he fished the lakes of Florida. One day a large cotton mouth dropped into his boat and Andrew just started firing away! Bang Bang Bang Bang. Lucky for him he was floating in knee deep water. Unlucky for him most of the entire lake was knee deep water so he ended up wading in water full of aligators and snakes for about an hour before he made it to shore. He never shot at the bottom of his boat again.

You should post this in the General Bass Fishing forum. You'll get alot more views and replies I'm sure. I wasn't aware that fishermen lied...

Thanks, VABasser! I have believed every story any fisherman told me however fantastic it may be. Mainly because I've had some personal near misses that sounded like a Huckleberry Finn tale. I was just hoping to get some stories out of this post. Good idea to put it on the general page.

Now that's funny! Hey, how're they biting in Fla? I used to go to Orange and Newman(?) lakes when I was about 10 yrs old. Great times right there.

Biting good depends on where, Okeechobee's low as a snake, but fish are biting like mad, Tohos dropping but the fis.h are sick, a 4 day limit weighed 28 lbs last Wednesday.

I havent been to Orange or Newnans in years, cut the tip of my finger off in Orange trying to fix a stuck trolling motor, circa 1981 maybe. It drained awhile back but bounced back.

Wow! Sounds like you're having a lot of fun! Wish I was there.
