bassnleo Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I downed bird number 1 this past Wednesday. The bad part was I missed the same bird 2 days earlier. Least I redeemed myself. Beard was only 8 inches due to him loosing some from snow and ice this winter but he made up for it in spur length. Both were 1.25 inches, pointy sharp, and had black tips. Cool hunt that lasted a whopping 10 minutes! Heard him gobble twice at 0725, pulled the trigger on him at 0735, after having to crawl 40 feet to a tree when he gobbled 60 yds away. Still have tag number 2 to work on! Anyone else having success this Spring? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 8, 2011 Global Moderator Posted May 8, 2011 Couple of my Sgts have shot birds this spring along with a couple of my fishing buddies. I don't have any desire to turkey hunt. Counted 87 of them roosted in the cottonwoods while I was sitting in my deer stand last fall and shot one during the fall season but that was just because I was there and had a tag, wasn't really hunting them. A regular broadhead just destroys them and I can't gun hunt out there. I see a ton of them almost everyday I drive to the lake though! Had one big tom strutting for a pair of hens about 30 yards away from my boat while I was fishing a point a couple weeks ago. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 8, 2011 Super User Posted May 8, 2011 Not a fan of Turkey hunting though I hunt everything else. Coulda smoked quite a few the past few weeks while making the local ground hog population go poof into a red mist from my .243 but I don't have tags and it would be super illegal to use a .243 not to mention messy Quote

bassnleo Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Bird number two took a dirt nap at 0550 hrs this morning. Was 50 yds away on the limb, flew down, and strutted right up to my decoy. Game over for me, tagged out. Quote
