I'm going to spend some time experimenting/trying to learn to fish the C-rigg and would like to go with the 12# Y-Z (I'm currently using 8# ultra on my spinning rig and like it). I know the ultra is promo'd as "for spinning" but looking at the spec sheet on both types the numbers are the same (dia, break strenght)so I'm wondering if one is a better fit for a BC. I will be placing an order for 6# ultra for another spinner when I see that TW has it in stock and will get the 12# then as well. As for the over-all set up I'm going with MH/F 7' with the above 12# Y-Z (break strength= 19.5), does that sound like an acceptable C-rigg set up? Thanks

I agree with Grey Wolf, hybrid on the bc. The ultra soft is better on spinning gear.

I've not used Hybrid yet, but I've used Ultra Soft #12 on my Citicas and loved it. It's not as stiff as CXX, which I liked. I have a spool of Hybrid I just got, but I'm not ready to change line just yet. Hopefully I'll have a better answer in a week or two. But I think you'd be fine using Ultra Soft.

Ultra Soft on any reel at ant #test will be a pleasant experience. JMHO

I like them both in 12# on baitcasters. I've heard that the Hybrid has a little higher breaking strength than the Ultra Soft, but I haven't had any breakoffs with either. Honestly, I don't think there's that big of a difference between the two in the 10-12# tests after they've been conditioned with KVD L&L.

Check out these deals on 1 lb. spools. You'll be set for years.

(some are out of stock at the moment, but keep an eye out, they come and go.)

The color of the ultra soft is a plus if you like to watch your line, for sure. I just used some hybrid today. Great line, definitely. Can't go wrong with either ultra soft or hybrid. I like both of them a little bit more than CXX. The hybrid seems almost as strong.

I purchased 8# and 12# over the winter and couldn't wait to get on the water and try them out. I love the Yo-Zuri line; with one exception. I was using it this weekend c-rig fishing. On Lake Guntersville the best places to fish a c-rig is in areas with shell or gravel bottoms. These bottoms ATE UP the Yo-Zuri line. It was necessary to retie after about every 2nd or 3rd fish or every 30 casts or so. I am using hybrid 12# on this setup. I will be using something different on my next outing. I hope this helps. Just my experience.

OK, the color/line watching ability makes the decision for me, that's one thing I really like about the Ultra, my eye sight is not what it used to be are. I thought the Hybrid came in same color but see that it's camo gr. not mist gr. Thanks M/H for mentioning that.

Fishing fool, I'm surprised to hear this, I see so many posts raving about the abrasion resistance of the Y-Z, are they directed more toward the Hybrid? Since you say "you are fishing the shell/gravel areas" is it possible that other lines would take a similar beating as well? In my case the waters I'm currently fishing are quite tame so the Ultra should be fine, thanks for the head up though.

Thanks everyone for all the input.

I've been using the Hybrid 8 lb (green) on my Revo STX baitcaster and I'm really liking it so far. I'm using it for throwing Senko's and Creature baits in case it matters.

I've also been using the KVD line conditioner after after usage too and I'm not seeing memory issues so far.

Just re-spooled my crankin rig with 12 lb. ultra-soft and it seems to cast a bit farther and handle better with no other noticeable difference.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still using the Yo-Zuri hybrid on other setups, I've just gone back to my Seaguar Invisx for the areas with the shells and gravel. It seems to hold up to the rough terrain better. But I love the Yo-Zuri for cranking, and spinnerbaits especially.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have been using the ultra soft on several spinning set ups this year including my senko setup and this is an awesome line. I have had fish wrap me up in trees and was able to get them out everytime, maybe some luck involved but the ultra softs casts fantastic and I actually like the color.

i prefer ultra soft for both spinning (6 lb. test) and baitcasting (12 lb. test). plenty strong, great handling and comes in that excellent mist green color. i've tried regular hybrid and, while super strong, it's very stiff and wiry.

Without a doubt, go with the Yo-Zuri HyBrid Ultra Soft. Very little memory, and very strong. I've been using 12# ultra-soft on my baitcasters for a few years now. I will never switch, ever.
