two years ago...didn't have a scale to weigh it so I don't know how much it weighed, only that it was much bigger than anything I have caught before or since. It was barely dusk, and I caught this largemouth on a black jointed jitterbug using a bass pro crankin stick and a cabelas prodigy baitcast reel(I am not sure if using a cabelas reel on a basspro rod is legal in all 50 states :D )

Largest I have weighed was 3.8 pounds. I caught it last summer on the same black jointed jitterbug...although I don't remember the rod/reel combo for this one.

I received that jitterbug as a "throw-in" for a trade I made with a member here...I can't remember who it was now, but thank you. That jitterbug is BEAT UP, and still answers the bell.

WRB, I knew you had me beat... twice over.... but I didn't want to say anything until you did :) I wish you had some photos of those fish..... but because of the time and place you were fishing (and also because it's coming from you) I don't have the slightest doubt.

Matt, what's a pound ? That fish is freaking HUGE !!! :)

Great photo too. So cool :)

Peace,

Fish

One of these days I will learn to post a photo. Reading Nate Fullmers tutorial and hope that works! Just hate to reply without a photo.

Back in the dark ages we only carried throughaway Kodak pocket cameras and the film usually went bad by the time we needed a picture. The few I have are photos taken usually by a bystander at the dock as the fish was being released. Today I have a digital camera, just haven't caught any giant bass lately. Both you and Matt have awesome photos of your giant bass, beautiful fish!

I did send you the 18 lb 11 oz picture from Casitas (old bass with a worn out tail)and you tried to help me with a photo bucket link that I managed to screw up! This stuff just baffles me.

Your bass is a giant for the lake you fish. It's all about being in the right place at the right time and a lot of luck!

Largemouth bass: 6 lbs 12 oz

Smallmouth bass: No weight, but measured at 20 1/4 inches

Has anyone else realized the wide array of lures that all of these fish have come on?

Topwaters

Jigs

Swimbaits

Live bait

Cranks

Spinnerbaits

Plastics

I think this goes to show that catching a big fish has a lot to do with being in the right place at the right time, rather than having the "perfect" bait to make her bite. I think that a number of different lures would have caught the same fish given the same conditions, time of day, and her pure hunger.

Oddly enough, I caught my PB large and smallmouth while fishing for other species.

Smallmouth-5lb, 5oz 21.5 inches on a leech while walleye fishing.

Largemouth- not weighed, measured 23.5 inches on a musky sized bucktail spinner while musky fishing.

Yea I got that picture ;)

No dude you got it all wrong!

Catching big bass is about the lure & what "Pro" recently won with it

Catching big bass is about the name on the side of your rod-n-reel

The 6-02 in my avatar. Caught him on a jitterbug about 6 in the morning. Only caught two LMB that day and the other was a dink

I tried a photo but it wouldn't post for some reason. Here is a video of my PB caught on a High Power Herring swimbait. It was a topwater strike with the fish coming out of the water. It was still almost 16lbs a while after it was caught and had spit up a big shad. Had to wait for a buddy to bring me a good scale as I only had a rusty spring scale in the boat.

I posted in this thread early on and forgot all about it, but I just read thru it all again and your're 100% correct, it's being at the right place at the right time with the right lure!

I got one at 5# on topwater Super Spook. That was pretty cool, the whole lure just dissappeared on the bite. I got another one a couple of weeks ago that I felt was a little bigger, probably 5.5#. But, after looking at all these huge bass everyone else is catching I need to go fishing with you guys!!
