Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 6, 2011 Super User Posted May 6, 2011 I'm looking into getting a Cumara and was wondering what noticeable differences there are in the fast and extra fast actions of the 7'2" casting rods. Also wondering the power differences of the M and MH in the 7'2". I know the differences in actions and powers in general, just wondering for this specific rod. For example, I have a 7'M and 7'MH daiwa zillion but the 7'MH fishes like every other H I've used and is much more than any MH I've had experience with. Any input or advice is appreciated, I plant on using 12lb line for things like shakey heads, tubes, Texas rigs, and maybe some small finesse jigs. My main concern is I don't want a light and whippy tip like some XF actions can be, if that's the case, I'll probably go for the F. I am going to take my reel and try to compare the feel of the different rods if I can find them locally. I really just decided this last night so haven't had a chance to get my hands on the different models. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I can not speak for the 7'2" but I have the 6"8" in a MH XF. Any of the Cumaras I have held and or fish with I would not consider at all whippy. I use mine as a Spinner Bait Rod and it has plenty of power. I hope this helps. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted May 6, 2011 Super User Posted May 6, 2011 The difference between the 7-2 MH and MH Xfast is pretty dramatic, really. The Xfast is a really, really good jig rod in that the tip loads easily, and it is considerably more stout than the MHF. The tip on the MHF is softer to allow working plastics as well as giving you a bit of room to work in terms of playing a fish and hook set. The Xfast will really drive a jig home on the set. The difference between Medium and medium heavy is pretty substantial, again. The MXF is a really nice smaller jig rod for fishing 1/4 ounce jigs in deeper water, or for fishing finesse jigs. It loads nicely, handles baits well, and it will also allow you to hop jigs in that 3/8oz size without the tip feeling mushy. The MF is a light T-rig rod. I fish a lot of 6-8" worms with a 1/8 or 1/4 oz tungsten weight on that rod, as well as smaller tubes and some bigger shakey heads in deep water. Overall, the Xfast actions in the series are relatively stout, they're not mushy or flimsy at all. With the MH I can hop a 3/4 oz jig without feeling like the tip is overloaded. It will also crawl and drag jigs really well. I like the fast rods as plastics rods, that's where they excel for me. Quote
21farms Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 i had the zillion 7MH and know what you're talking about. i currently have the cumara 72MH/F but handled the 72M/XF and 72MH/XF. the tips on the XFs are anything but light & whippy! i personally find shimano's recommended uses to be spot on. Quote
steezy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 The cumara is a sweet rod, esp. if you put a core50 reel on it. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 6, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 6, 2011 Thanks for the input guys. I am still going to try to get my hands on them first but may end up with the M-XF. Sounds more suited for the weights I want to use with it. I'd love to have a core 50 to put on it but my alphas Ito will have to do. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted May 6, 2011 Super User Posted May 6, 2011 The cumara is a sweet rod, esp. if you put a core50 reel on it. I agree. I've toned down my reel buying habit, really toned it down, I'd have Calais on all of them if I could, instead I have one Core 100MGFV, two Chronarch 101D7, the remainder are Curado and Chronarch 100SF. Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 12, 2011 I ended up going with the 7'2"M-XF like I thought. I went to the local shop and tried the 6'9"M-F and XF, the 7'2"M-XF and MH-F. I was really tempted by the 6'9" but opted for the longer rod. Just ordered it from TW so hopefully I'll get it the beginning of next week. Quote
Fat-G Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I think the Cumara rods are often overlooked by many anglers. I have the 7'2 MH/F and it's a perfect plastics and light jig rod. I would say it's top end is probably a 1/2 oz. jig and trailer. Cumara rods are very sensitive. Hookingem and I were dragging jigs over rock piles the other day and it felt like the rocks were being amplified up to my arm. For a while I thought sensitivity was a bit over-rated, until the other day. I really came to appreciate it. I can honestly say I won't buy a sub-$150 rod for bottom presentations now. KY, how do you like the Zillion rods? I've been debating getting one for a while now. I'm thinking about getting the 7' MH for a jig rod, mainly 3/8-1/2 oz. I might message you to get some more details. The only thing I am concerned about is that the handle might be too long, which would (to me) feel like there wasn't enough rod and too long a handle. Five-Alive Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I love my 7'2" M XF Cumara, I use it with a 200 E7 Curado throwing 12# line for texas rigs and light jigs. I use the MH for heavier jigs with 15# line. Quote
