Super User dodgeguy Posted May 6, 2011 Super User Posted May 6, 2011 sufix 832 i decided to try a spool of 20/6 on my spinning reel.i know i push fireline braid and i still love it but it doesn't come in an 8 strand under 30 lb.this results in a rougher fininish than the 30 lb and higher line has.this is my only ***** with the line.i hate braid noise and the rougher the finish the more noise you get. anyway i was wondering what guys like about it and don't like about it.i like the finish and find it as smooth but not smoother than the 30lb and up fireline.i know it's supposed to sink and i was wondering if that helps or hurts it for certain applications.like does it sink fast enough to pull down a topwater?do i still need a floating braid for topwaters?any wind knot/tangling issues?any digging issues? Georgia Jeff Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 It fishes very similar to PowerPro. I have noticed less noise when traveling through the guides than with powerpro. Both fade when older but fade to a different color. The line supposedly sinks but I haven't really noticed much of a difference however, I fish mostly weighted plastics of quick moving weightless plastics and therfore might not notice as easily as others. I don't think you will have any issues with it when fishing topwater lures and it doesn't dig in with me. I like it a hair better than PowerPro and if they were the exact same price would choose the suffix but if I could find a good deal on PowerPro in the future I would buy it. Quote

BobP Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I recently spooled some 20/6 on my 2000 size spinning reel and have used it a couple of times. It may sink, but only very slowly - certainly not as fast as fluorocarbon. IMO, that makes it not especially good for throwing unweighted plastics like flukes, Senkos. I want a line that sinks asap to keep contact with the bait for that presentation. I think it would work OK for topwater lures. The 832 handles rather well and is very small diameter for its line rating. It does seem to have a little more stiffness than most braids of the same diameter and it will definitely get twists and knots if you aren't careful. I got some immediately when I started using it, cut them off, and the problem went away because the spool was then not filled to the top of the lip. After shelling out $20 for a small spool, I didn't want to waste any! Did anyway! Quote
baluga Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 What I like about it: 1. It's thinner than fireline crystal for the same rating. 2. Smoother than power pro and sufix performance braid. The line is stiff when brand new, give it a couple of outing and it becomes smoother. 3. Quite on the retrieve. 4. Does not bleed like Daiwa Samurai. 5. Does not develop line fraying like Fireline Crystal. 6. It does not dig in the spool since it is rounded. What I don't like about it is the price but its cheaper than Daiwa Samurai. Tie a 6' to 8' Mono or FC leader when using it for topwater. Not a good idea to use straight braid( any braid ) when using topwater, otherwise you'll have to contend with line getting tangle on the treble hooks when working the walk-the-dog. Quote
The Guy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I haven't noticed any sinking with the 12/50 832 and don't have any problems fishing topwater with it. Quote
northern basser Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I prefer it to PP. Its rounder, quieter, and softer. Quote
northern basser Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 D G, I forgot to mention, it works well with my pflueger patriarch xt!! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 7, 2011 Super User Posted May 7, 2011 Just recently spooled 50lbs test on my jig rod. Going to see how this works out. Quote
Fat-G Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I didn't especially like it. For jigs and frogs, I wouldn't ever do it again. Quote
0119 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I hate braid. Im constantly buying it, hating it then removing it and putting mono back on. I put 20# 832 on a Stradic 4000 for saltwater use and finally am happy with braid. Its quieter, rounder and has body. It doesnt sink like I thought it was advertised to but using a 6ft leader anyway, its been fine with topwaters. Quote
