All my friends and I read the mags (most aimed at fishing south), follow the tournaments ( most, if not all in southern lakes). I salivate to imagine boating an eight pounder, much less a ten! Any other Northerners like me wonder how much of the stuff about bass behavior and forage is really different enough to change the game up here?

Down south has a lot longer growing season and fewer species to compete with the bass (very few northerns/walleye/trout in the land of somewhat common 8 lbers.) That being said there are more 5-8lb Bass around than one would think up North. Grand Lake is supposed to have MONSTER Smallmouths.

one of my friends in my club caught an 8 pounder out of Sebago. They are here too just a little harder to find? It takes our bass longer to get big because of the short warm weather, but the forage is here. Our last tournament weighed in two 5 1/2 pound smallmouths.

I think there is something about the genetics of the bass down in FLA too. I could be wrong but I remember hearing something about the genes of the huge 10lb+ bass caught in FLA and in the Delta in CA being different, or from some "special line" of LMB or something. I don't know if there's anything to that but there very well could be.

I've skunked so far this year man and my gf just rubbed it in my face by pulling a 4lber from shore just the other day. I'm dying to go out - some of us should get together and try our luck some time.

I saw a pic of that fish and it was a real hog. A guy at the Green tournament had it, but it is also online now. Toddy has some giants in it due to the alewife.

I tried to put up a link to the pic, but thats not working. Go to waldo county bass addicts and get to the toddy pics.

Nice fish WTRDOG! Hogs! I'll be heading up to the Waterville area, my Wife's family is from there. I always fish East Pond and do very very well there. Any idea what the fishing is like in that region right now? Water temp? Spawn? Etc. Thanks in advance!

d**n!!! Way to go!! You're out there slamming them!! Looks like spinnerbaits and jigs? Care to share any info on water temp or depth? I almost have enough funds together to get a fish finder and trolling motor (if it will mount on my boat lol) and once I do I'm gonna be out on my boat trying to break my 2011 curse - been skunking so far :(

Way to go man! Looks like a great day of fishing with some real toads!

What season is the best for bass in maine,is the spring or the early summer(may) a good time? And what Kind of baits you take? Are the fish stands in the deep or at the surface to this time?

Love that East Pond ref. In another life and another wife I owned a camp on North Pond. I've caught a truck load of 5 pounders in Maine but never a 6 or bigger.

They are here though! Been caught in our tournaments, and I have caught them.

Depends on the fisherman. 90 % of my larger fish come as soon as the Ice goes out all the way to mid June then it slows a little and then I start catching them again end of August through the end of October. However I still catch the bigger ones when it slows down just not as often.
