RockCity Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Was just down at 9A/Baymeadows Park and saw 5 HUGE fish at the back of the lake where the park, condo complex and car dealership meet. The fish looked like they were bass but I couldn't make them out from the distance i was standing at. Stood out on the bank casting for about an hour and didn't get a single bite from anything... Where else can I go around here??? Quote

Where else can I go around here??? 99% sure those were grass carp you saw they resemble spawning bass in the water and most ponds in jacksonville have them! You can catch them on bread balls floating on the top of the water. That's the only thing ive ever heard them biting on. Quote

Where else can I go around here??? Just about every pond that you see from the road holds some fish. Don't discount the size of the pond. I have caught fish up to 9lbs and I ONLY fish retention ponds. Find a safe place to park and start casting. There are lots of places off 9a and JTB to fish. Good luck. 2 Quote
BASS11 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Has anybody on here ever fished the Westside Industrial Park Quote
RockCity Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I tried fishing the pond in some apartments today... no luck again! I didn't get out until about 10:30 but it felt early enough. I see people fishing that pond all the time but I've never seen anyone pulling anything out. Anyone here ever fished the pond between Bentley Green and Princeton Square apartments and had luck? Also, the pond over by BCO... where's the best spot to hit on that pond? I saw a bunch of paddleboarders out there this morning, but they were being loud so I decided not to stay. The BCO dock looks like a good spot, nice foliage in the corners for bass to hide in... Quote

I love this time of the year. Used to be a good spot. Has died off a lot within the past couple of years. Fish are hitting hard and fast lately. I love this time of the year. Thats cuz so many people are keeping what they catch....witnessed a couple guys bucket fishing this weekend. Who wants to eat fish out a retention pond, I dunno but there is no balance, taking some is good but they fish it to extinction. No limits or lengths abided. Quote

flyfishman Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Greetings fellow Jax bassers. New to the forum and area, any news on the Beach Blvd. small business park lakes? Went to Deerwood/Baymeadows area a couple weeks ago fishing one of the small ponds off Phillips Hwy and was run off by a contract security guard working the complex there. He said all of Deerwood Park is off limits....was hoping to find a more out of the way, less visible type of lake with decent bank access. I've heard the UNF lakes hold an occasional lunker, others have tried the Mayo Clinic...thinking that would be good before the heavy algae starts to appear. Does the Mayo Clinic have any restrictions, or has anyone had an issues with fishing the grounds there? Tight lines, sharp hooks and releasing the lunkers.... Quote

Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 Pondslayer took me over by te Mayo Clinic without any problems. That was back in summer I think we were fishing around 5:30 6 and stayed til dark. I think I remember him saying that he got kicked out of there one time. In my opinion all lakes/ponds are fair game as long as they have no signs saying no fishing. There is this complex over by south side blvd, it might be deerwood, that has a security gate I just told him I visiting a friend that lives there, off of Fairfield Street (there is no Fairfield street) and he lets me in. I have been there 6 times and only had to mention Fairfield the first two times. That's a good way to get in those nice complex ponds but making sure a street actually is in there would probably be beneficial. 1 Quote
flyfishman Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Tightlines, referring to the area at 9A/Beach Blvd, between Beach Blvd and Central Parkway...didn't know whether they are considered UNF lakes and/or subject to restrictions. Quote
flyfishman Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Thanks for the reply AK-NJ1986, I usually don't fish midday, but wouldn't at a high visible property like the Mayo Clinic....It may be hit or miss with seeing security or maybe depends if someone complains that particular day about someone fishing there. Some of the those gated communities may have a resident list at the front gate with an associated address, might be tough to put 2 and 2 together....I guess you've been lucky so far... Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 20, 2013 Super User Posted March 20, 2013 Funny you said that about the list because I found a nice residential spot that has a back enterance for residents and a gated enterance for guests and deliveries. So I followed someone in and fished at this pond. Old guy came up to me talking about fishing I told him I wasn't from the community and he gave me his name and address so I can get in at gate whenever, nice guy. So you could try to ask someone in there or you can always check someone's mail to get their last name. Don't let people see you though Quote
