Mexchico Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Any new hot spots in Jacksonville? I'm willing to drive and travel just about anywhere here in Jacksonville. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Quote
flyfishman Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I'm also new to the Jacksonville area...Looking for some help with spots to wet a line. The lakes off of Pritchard road sound like a great spot to try. I've fished a few park lakes off of Greenland Road (Palmetto Leaves Regional Park) and caught a few small bass and bluegill. This drought is really dropping the water level in the small ponds. I fished Pope Duval lake (at the end of the road) a couple weeks ago and didn't have any hits. Maybe I was fishing the wrong lake. Saw a small gator and guys there fishing for catfish. Can any guys fishing the UNF lakes advise of restrictions for fishing those lakes? Quote
NCbassmaster4Life Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Try fishing the ponds of butler, fish at your own risk. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 7, 2012 Super User Posted May 7, 2012 I am down off of exit 335 some decent ponds around. The ponds in the communities off bartran parkway and there is an abandon subdivision down there and the business park as well. I tried a couple of the many ponds by the citi bank complex saw people fishing the ones one the way in. Canals over in julington creek look good seen people fishing them. the pond by the park in durbin looks over fished. Gonna try that pond by the preserve since it is fairly close. Will let u know if it is good 1 Quote
flyfishman Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions. I'll first hit some of the ponds off Bartram Park since it is closer to my house as well. Hopefully this cloudy weather will stir things up. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted May 26, 2012 Super User Posted May 26, 2012 I am 25 and looking for a fishing partner or a few. I just moved here from NJ with my pregnant girlfriend (she loves to fish too hopefully our son will too). I live off of race track road and fished a couple ponds around here. Today around 3pm I caught 5 bass within a 40 minute period with the smallest being 2 lbs. I am looking for a couple othe good spots and people to fish with. Also does anyone know of any bait shops around San Jose Blvd, Phillips Highway, or anywhere close that sell live bait? Thanks Quote

JaxBasser Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I've got some spots out near the westside of town (whitehouse area) that I'd be happy to share. I'm always looking for more people to fish with but It can be a bit difficult since I don't have a car at the moment. I've got some spots that hold some good fish though. 1 Quote

Where is the Westside exactly? I am down on Old St. Augustine and 95. Don't get much past Butler except for work. Quote
edkuscg Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Im off Hodges and close to UNF...drove around UNF today trying to find a spot but i am not sure where we can fish. Anyone got any spots they would like to share. I wanna do some fishing in the AM. Quote

You can get to it from the community in the back. Other than that I haven't fished any ponds that way. But if you go past black creek outfitters, I forget the name of the main road, and then you will see an exit for 202 on your right if you keep going down, past the 202 eit, and towards 95 I believe there are some huge lakes over that way. They have been there for years so they definitly hold big fish. I've seen a few people fishing them when I am coming home from the Town Center. Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 16, 2012 Super User Posted August 16, 2012 There is a nice pond off of 202 bulter, take Belfort Rd and turn left onto AC Skinner. the business park begins emediately to your right, there is a huge pond drive to the last or second to last entrance. Beware of the big gator. Baymeadows has a park and there are a good number of ponds off of Gate. Also heard of many folks fishing the ponds near UNF or on campus. That is about all I know that far north. Good luck. Quote
pikehunter100 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I tried out a couple of the ponds off of Pritchard two nights ago, showed up about 45 minutes before dark, finally caught one little one at the very end...I didn't check out the map from earlier in the thread until later, and wasn't fishing in what seem to be the best ponds. Will probably head back this weekend sometime, its about 10 minutes from my house, so its really convenient. Quote

A friend of mine who used to live over in Argyle area gave me a spot and I passed it along to him. He got a 4 or 5 pounder out of it. These are some old farm ponds that have houses built around them now. Take arglye forest to chestwick oaks then left on to spencers plantation. There will be a bunch of condos on your right, a big pond behind them has 7 and 8 pound fish according to the guy that used to live on the farm before it was sold. The oldest pond with the biggest bass is the one on the left past summit drive, directly across from redstone drive with a big tree next to it. He said he caught and released an 11 pounder, his personal best, on live bream under a float. I haven't had the chance to make it there and fish it, take some pics if you land that big one 1 Quote
pikehunter100 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Awesome, thanks MCS. Quick question...when I go to check out places like these, where should I park? I don't want to park somewhere I'm not supposed to and make people mad, get some no fishing signs posted etc...Do you guys just park on the street? looking at streetview there doesn't seem to be any pull off area's nearby. Also, sent JaxBasser a PM, doesn't seem like he's been online here since July. Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 17, 2012 Super User Posted August 17, 2012 If it was me, I always try to find a public place to park, The condo/townes have guest spots so I would park there, also the road withe to two smaller ponds might be a good spot to park for a couple hours. There was a spot near me that was is similar, people walk their dogs through it etc. everyone just parks outside the gates and walks in. there are some business parks that Jax Basser posted, maybe off 103rd that he fishes. Business/shopping centers parks are good because they have public parking. I deffinitely feel you though and try to be respectful. The place I caught my fish today has a couple ponds, gated to traffic but has ped access so I park down the street at a park or at a business park and walk to it. Yeah I haven't heard from him in a while so I sent him a PM the other day. Dunno whats up. Quote
pikehunter100 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I've gone out to the Pritchard ponds three times now, have gotten about 5 bass, none of them over 14", Also caught a big dogfish. I think once this rain stops I'll go check out the place in Argyle. Is this the prime time for bass fishing, or does it pick up as we get into the cooler weather? Wondering if the hot weather has been making the big ones a little wary of biting. Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 20, 2012 Super User Posted August 20, 2012 Big front coming through. Temps gonna drop expect the bite good until it moves through then it will die for a while. I am planning on Thursday or Friday giving a pond I know was going before a try to see.....once it is consistent in the mid 80's it should be better and move into a "fall" patern. May and beginning of June were pretty good before it hit 90's every day Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted August 21, 2012 Super User Posted August 21, 2012 Man May and June I was killing them! Since all this hot weather and rain I haven't got any fish worth posting a picture of. MCS is right once the temps drop again the fish will be biting again. Also I think they were spawning in May and beginning of June so that is why they were close to shore and very active. I am going to be doing more fishing in the morning though when the temps are low. I am gonna check out the pond n the corner of Bartrum and Racetrack if anyone wants to meet me there Thursday morning I'll be there around 6:15 am. Let me know Quote
pikehunter100 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 FINALLY! I went fishing for about 2 hours tonight, about an hour in a caught a little largemouth (10 inches), a few minutes later I hooked a nice one that snapped my line...Finally at around dark I caught a nice one, about 18 inches or so with a nice big belly (no scale yet...on the list) it's the first decent largemouth I've caught in Florida, good day. I already agreed to go fishing for red's Thursday morning or I would come join you AK...good luck! Quote
