Super User clayton86 Posted May 3, 2011 Super User Posted May 3, 2011 Just picked up some more ammo this weekend who else shoots hornady. I personally love there ammo I shoot it out of all my guns but my bird guns and .22 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 3, 2011 Super User Posted May 3, 2011 I can say I've never had any issues with their hand gun rounds like I have with some other manufacturers. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 they make shot shells? i knew they made rifle and handgun rounds Quote
bassdocktor Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I've been wanting to pick up their critical defense for my .40 but the stores never seem to carry it in .40 and sadly I'm unable to have it sent to me through the mail. I've always heard good things so I wanted to give it a try. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted May 3, 2011 Super User Posted May 3, 2011 I let my gun pick my bullets, but generally Hornady makes some mighty fine rounds, their superperformance ammo is loved by my .308! Quote
ctf58 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I hand load with Hornady for my Springfield 30-06. Best accuracy I've ever had. Quote
fishingkidPA Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 i like the hornady slugs.....but my .270 loves the good ole' Remington Core-Lokts. I almost exclusively shoot remington ammo out of all my guns because it just shoots so well. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted May 4, 2011 Super User Posted May 4, 2011 Retired from reloading, that's all I mostly used... Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 4, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 4, 2011 I shoot vmax 17gr out of my .17hmr I put 7 rounds into a paintcan lid at 150yds I can cover all 7rounds with a quarter. Same goes with my .243 I shoot 58gr vmax molys and I'm shoot sub MOA out to 300yards I picked off a fox squirrel at 218yards with it threw the woods when coyote hunting. The 20ga gets sst sabots droped my doe and spike after 50yards of tracking but droped my big doe at 190yds dead in her tracks she didn't even twitch. With the sst it seems like it needs to get some distance. The first doe and spike were 11yd and 20yd shots. Every gun I own seems to love hornady hope fully it stops raining so I can target some groundhogs in the back pasture Quote

Only ask if you are willing to buy at least a few boxes. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Here are some of my favorite bullets Vmax 50 gr 45 cal XTP 9mm XTP 168 gr HPBT Match Quote
bassdocktor Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 The closest Dicks doesn't carry any guns or ammo, just cleaning supplies. Many many years ago they had atleast shotguns but not for a very long time. I think it has something to do with living in Chicago. Quote
luger306 Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I reload sst for my 30-06 bthp for my 7ultmag and shoot holes in holes with both loads Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 10, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2011 I shot my first chuck with my .243 yesterday with the 58gr vmax and I must say I was disapointed I was expecting a red mist chuck flying end over end but nothing he was walking outa a soybeen field about 260yds. I shot it in the neck and it just stoped walking like nothing happend but I know I didn't miss. Walked up to it and there was just a little hole with some frothy blood and that was it. I supose on the factor of just flat out killing it gets 5 stars along with saving the pelt another 5 stars but I was under the impression it would explode the chuck kinda like the varmint grenade. MaineBassMan Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I don't buy their loaded ammo, but I do reload and thats all I use. Quote

If you want mist use a lighter grain bullet. I reload the 60gr V-max for my .223 and it blow big nasty holes in coyotes! But a coyote is a little thicker than a chuck. Whoops not familar with the .243 I see that is as light as you can go. Sorry! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 9, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 9, 2011 Yeah 58gr is as light as u can go with the .243. I did get the big splat but it wasn't on a chuck but a big fat rabbit and again on a squirel I think chucks are just to dense or something idk. Quote

I would move...lol Chucks are tough sob's you are lucky to drop it in one shot, I had them walk through a 22lr and .223 when I was a kid. Quote
jamarkwe Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I really wish that Hornady made target ammo. And cost effective aswell. Quote

Yeah me too I shoot it out of every gun I own exept my .22s the .243 gets expensive quick but .17hmr ammo has come down alot but I have a hard time finding it hell any hornady ammo is hard to track down around here for my calibers. I'd say if you shot it in the neck it didn't have enough "flesh..." to go through to fully expand. I have a 6mm PPC that is the same caliber as a 243 it's just about 200 fps slower. I've shot Turkeys (hush) with it. It still makes a 243 size hole on the entrance but you could stick a pop can in the exit wound. Quote

Yeah idk what's up with chucks but I hit a rabbit with it and well there wasn't much left but I let it be a warning to stay away from my garden lol Quote
