Anyone have an opinion on this reel? I'm trading with a buddy of mine that has one but it's new, in box so I haven't had a chance to cast it of course.

Just wondering about castability, ease of setting it up correctly....etc.....

any opinions welcome! Thanks!

The Trion has the reputation as being a work horse. They cast well, are durable and have plenty of line capacity. I still have mine but relegated it to steelhead duty to date. At 5.2 to 1 it could be a pretty good deep crankin reel.

I have last years model-decent reel but the wider heavier spool means it is not a distance caster like my Asaro. If you want a crankin gear ratio for target casting square bills or spinnerbaits then it is ok.

The Trion is a great reel...I think youll like it. My Trions outcast my Curados if that tells you anything.

Your gonna love that reel, what did you trade him?

I'm trading him one of my old Predator shafts from my playing cue. I have too many shafts right now as it is and I need another reel so I figured why not!

That's good to know! I'm getting a Curado 200 DPV for my deep cranking so I suppose I will use the Trion for squarebills. Thanks for the info. I tell you I'm tempted to go back to Ardent for my deep cranks but I think that Curado is going to be a sweet one!

I did own a Summit at one point but I never could get a lot of distance out of it. Maybe I never dialed it in correctly but for the money I thought it was a let down. I've heard a lot of good things about the Trion so I'm looking forward to giving it a try. Can't beat a trade! If I don't like it I'm sure someone will pick it up from me!

The trions are awesome. The older ones are anyway. They are bulletproof, and cast far. These were my first reels, I bought them from a dealer that would give me a great price. I still use the 6.3:1's for long casting baits like traps and sometimes smaller cranks -on the right rod, 60yrds easy with 1/2ounce trap- I bought a newer 5.2:1 ratio just a few months ago. This reel can sling a 3/8 ounce spinnerbait, I can just imagine the way it will throw a DD22 when the time comes. They are heavy and may not be quite as smooth as other reels. But, I think this is the only bad thing about this reel that I would have to say, and it would certainly be a worthwhile trade off to get this reel. They are also a good reel to learn how to clean, assemble and disassemble. They are really easy to learn, and if you can take this reel apart, you know how to take over 50% of other brands apart too.

Great info everyone. I appreciate it. I'm adding it to my arsenal for sure. I look forward to playing around with it over the weekend. I appreciate the information and opinions from everyone on this site. It's truly the best bass fishing site ever created (in my opinion.

Thanks guys!
