Any one here have the laser eye surgery? Iv been toying with the idea of having it done after I deploy in the fall. I'm getting so sick of taking contacts out and glasses just always break.

A buddy of mine got PRK done before his deployment, but it took a long time before his vision was back to normal (weeks). He was going to get lasik surgery, but lasik can come undone from a blow to the head. The PRK procedure was painful and had a longer recovery time, but is less likely to come undone. I'm not an ophthamologist, but I hope that helps.

I have a bunch of friends in their late teens/early 20's who have had it done. What your friend says about your eyes not being done changing doesn't make sense to me. I'm no eye doctor but it seems to me that no one's eyes are ever done changing. The problem is, they keep getting worse, not better.

Definitely do your research, and especially on the surgeons in your area. This is one of the best articles I've found on what to look for in a surgeon:

Also, everyone has financial limits, but this isn't the time to be looking for a bargain.

Good luck!

I had Lasik 13 1/2 years ago, could not be happier. Went from 20/400 to 20/20 in one eye, 20/25 in the other. I was able to drive myself to my post op visit the next morning without glasses.

Just like srv1990, do resource on the doctors who do it. Don't just pick the cheapest.

One of my clients had both eyes done via Lasik and her only regret was that she did not have it done years earlier.

I may do it one day but I don't like doctors, hospitals, needles, blood, pain, etc.

Time will tell. :)

I had LASIK last year around this time and so far I couldn't be happier. Haven't had any real problems except some slight light sensitivity on bright days but that's remedied by sunglasses. It took me around 2 weeks to fully recover. I was fine for every day things after day three, slept the first two days after the surgery, the first was recommended, the second was due to headaches from the light sensitivity. I say it took two weeks to fully recover because I had some issues focusing on computer, tv, and phone screens. This was the only problem for me because I do ultrasounds and spend 10 hours of a 12 hour work day staring at a computer screen. I would recommend it to anyone. It can be a bit pricey but don't make your decision of a doctor based on price. I couldn't afford it either but was approved for a Care Credit card that made it easier to pay for. They offered no interest for the first 12 months if paid in full when I applied, not sure if that's still available but worth a look. Just be sure they accept it before you apply.

I had LASIK 6 years ago and I can join the list of people who couldn't be happier. I also wish I would have done it sooner.

I had the PRK done a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier. My only issue associated with the procedure was some light sensitivity, but honestly that doesn't bother me because I almost always wore my sunglasses when I was outside anyway.

Recovery is alot longer than if you have the traditional LASIK procedure. My recovery and the normal is actually about 6 weeks before you return to 20/20 vision. There should actually be an old thread about this if you go back about half a year. As someone said if you are very active the LASIK does have the downside of the flap they cut that can become dislodged.

Everyone I know that has done it has been happy no matter what procedure they picked. Definitely do your research.
