IALI1 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I use Power Pro 50# briaded line and 4/0 Owner worn hooks on several of my bass rods. I am experiencing what appears to be the line pulling through the "crack" where the eye meets the shank on the hook. I've lost several nice sized fish the past two years this way. The knot is still intact and the line has not broken, in fact the two loops that were around the eye are still visible and not broken. I've switched to the Palomar knot, which Power Pro shows in the literature that comes with the line, and I still have the problem. Anyone got any suggestions? Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 1, 2011 Super User Posted May 1, 2011 Either solder the crack shut or tie the hook on, cut the line above the knot and slide the knot over the crack to fill it. Then tie on as usual. Quote
joshholmes Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 switch to gammies. its not because of the knot its the hook eye thats giving you problems Quote
BILLYsobx Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Use a Double Palomar. Same as palomar just start like regular except fold line again and you have two loops and proceed when cinched you have tag line and a loop tag line. It's a little tough at first but it is 4 lines through eye that won't slip through gap ---- been there done that Quote
HAWGHUNTER88 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Change hooks, there are many out there. I never have this problem with keeper hooks. I'm using 65 lb power pro Double polomar is very good knot and as the moore knot. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 2, 2011 Super User Posted May 2, 2011 Squeeze the gap shut with a heavy pliers, I do this all time with my 12/0 limerick hooks, problem solved in a matter of seconds, if in fact the gap is your problem. I don't use anything heavier than 20# braid and that has solved it for me. 1 Quote
ChrisAW Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Snell it. I would think if he was having problems with the line getting through that gap that a snell would slip through it as well, maybe even cutting his line in the process? Are you using super line hooks or regular 4/0 hooks? You could be straightening the eyelet out with 50# braid. I don't have any owner hooks or I'd look, but just throwing another possibility out there. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 2, 2011 Super User Posted May 2, 2011 Owner Wide Gap Plus, Offset Worm Hooks, and Straight Shank Flipping hooks are all pinched at the eyelet. Snell them, and you'll have no issue - been doing this for years. Otherwise, get BMF or Paycheck hooks that are welded. Quote
