JonIn85 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 So I have been use my Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special baitcaster for the past year or so and have now decided that its time for an upgrade. I am having trouble casting lighter lures any kind of distance and I kinda just want a nicer reel. I have looked at the quantum Kinetic PT and Catalyst PT but honestly I really dont know what makes a baitcaster good and what does not other than what I have read online. A buddy of mine has a quantum energy and I have used that a few time and liked it that's what made me look at quantum first, I like the ACS breaking system, it seams to help with casting lighter bait further and with out the crows nest. Any ways if any body can give me some advice of weather or not the Kinetic or Catalyst are good reels or not that would be great or if any body could point me in the direction of a really good reel that would also be great, My budget is around $150. Thanks in advance for the help. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 29, 2011 Super User Posted April 29, 2011 Shimano Curado. Problem solved. You can get then NIB on eBay for $150 easy Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I have a Kinectic PT on the being delivered today so haven't had any water time with it yet. I got in NIB off ebay for $60. I have an older Energy PT which worked fine and has worked well for 2 yrs no problem. I have a Daiwa Exceler 6.3:1 that works well as a cranking reel for light down to 1/4 oz shallow to medium diver cranks. The Quantum line has served me well with me also having a older model Accurist PT that I use as a flipping reel. It is a very good reel and can be had on Ebay for around $40-50 NIB. 1 Quote

Fat-G Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Curado or Citica, I would personally stay away from Quantum. They get a bad rep around here. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 bass pro shops pro qualifier. cant get a more solid reel for $100 1 Quote
B-Dozer Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I know your heart is set on buying a new reel, but a rod designed to cast light lures is at least as important as the reel. 1 Quote

Just got it and will have line added to it tomorrow and it might replace one of the Daiwa Exceler reels I have been using. I'll let you know how it performs and the Exceler will probably end up in the flea market soon. 1 Quote
