Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 29, 2011 Super User Posted April 29, 2011 I call it PEPSI x2 If you as for a pop down here, the dude behind the counter may drag out an old Cuban guy..... Quote
tbird Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I was born in Texas and grew up in Louisiana. It was always "Coke" as Francho posted "what kind of coke do you want"? - I'll have a Dr. Pepper and a root beer. OK, I be right back with the cokes. That's just how it is. LOL Ronnie Yeah that is the way it is down here, ask for a "pop" or a "soda" and you have tipped your hand your'e a yankee. T Quote
Red Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I hear alot of the older guys at work call it "soda water" I grew up in NY and have always called it soda, but when ordering in a resturant I ask for what I want....mt.dew, coke, dr. pepper etc etc. My brother has lived in NW Ohio for many years now and he says "pop.:" Quote
northern basser Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 20 years ago my friends and I went to Florida for spring break. We stopped at a little cafe in TN to eat. Me- "what kind of pop do you have?" waitress- with a weard look, "pie? we have cherry, pecan, apple....." Must have been the north/ south language barrier, lol. Quote
crappiekid24 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I call it pop. Have used soda before too. When ordering it I order it by what I want ie. Pepsi. Quote

LOL Ronnie When we first moved from Wisconsin to Texas,Our neighbors helped us moved in and we asked them if they wanted anything to drink. They replied "coke" and sure enough we brought them coca cola out and they looked at us funny and said "we didn't ask for that.we wanted Dr.Pepper" That confused the heck out of us. To me it's Soda...My wife and her family still to this day pick on me for saying that here in Michigan. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted May 1, 2011 Super User Posted May 1, 2011 My great grandma, or is it grand mother, called all of it pee water. Quote
USMCSANDERS Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 We call it coke. like some one comes over " Ya'll got any coke?" 'Yea, what kind"?. but most of the time its called soda. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 6, 2011 Super User Posted May 6, 2011 Where I grew up , it was sodie. Quote
Fish Chris Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Well, I don't drink any of that stuff any more, but for all the years I did, If I wanted a Coke, I'd ask for a Coke. If I wanted a Sprite, I'd ask for a Sprite. If I wanted an Orange Crush, I'd ask for an Orange Crush. Do you see a pattern here ? Careful what you ask for... You just might get it ! Specifics ! Fish PS, I think most people around here use the generic term "soda".... but then you guys know I don't do anything like most people Quote
MyKeyBe Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 but it just doesn't make sense to me to call all soft drinks cola/coke/etc. because those are actually specific kinds of soft drinks. Not really any different than calling bandages "Band-Aides" or toilet tissue "Kleenex". When we first moved from Wisconsin to Texas,Our neighbors helped us moved in and we asked them if they wanted anything to drink. They replied "coke" and sure enough we brought them coca cola out and they looked at us funny and said "we didn't ask for that.we wanted Dr.Pepper" That confused the heck out of us. When my wife and I first met she was from Texas and we where driving somewhere one day when she said she was thirsty. I stopped at a gas station and asked what she wanted to drink. She replied "I'll have a Coke, please" Guess what she got? Yep, a Coca Cola, she wanted a Dr. Pepper. I too was very confused. I'm from N.E. Ohio and call it generically pop or soda pop. When I want something specific I ask for it by name. Quote
