Super User bilgerat Posted April 28, 2011 Super User Posted April 28, 2011 I work alone most of the time, so I have lots of time to think of ridiculous ideas. I was thinking of gluing strips of hook and loop (velcro) tape to the top and bottom of one of my frog baits. My reasoning is if I use the soft half of the velcro tape, it will perhaps make the frog that much harder for the bass to reject as it will hang up on the sandpaper like inner surface of the mouth. If it buys me a solid second or two, it may improve the hookup ratio. I don't believe it would affect the action much at all as it would only add several grams of weight. Properly placed I bet I could customize the "at rest" angle. Screw it, I'm doing it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained... Quote

Bill Murray I'd had a wicked day today and your post wiped all my tears away I think the velcro (even soft) would be far worse than the frog. But don't get discouraged! It's the guys who think off the wall stuff that invent the senkos LOL! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 29, 2011 Author Super User Posted April 29, 2011 The first one is set up now, the adhesive is drying. I decided against putting it on the top as I think it would stiffen the top too much and make compressing the body difficult. Gotta have those hook points exposed. Saturday is calling for temps in the 70's and sunny. The pads are starting to come up. Let's see how this works. Quote

I actually think that it may work. Post a pic when make it, it's really is a stretch (for me) to get a visual on it. laus, i'm glad I made your day. That movie doesn't get old, does it? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 29, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2011 It makes sense to me as long as the velcro doesn't hang up when the fish tries to eat the bait and makes it stop short of getting the hooks in it's mouth. The other problem I could see is getting good hooksets. The velcro is going to catch when you set the hook and possibly ball the frog up over the hooks or at the very least make it harder to pull the frog out from between the fishes teeth. It might not affect it as much as I'm thinking it will though. It would be worth a try to see if it works though. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 No no you have got it all wrong! Instead of velcro try a piece of metal that is sharpened to a point with a bend in it to.......oh wait Quote
quanjig Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Culprit used to make worms with that same idea, fuzzy side of Velcro on the worm. Buddy of mine use to school me with that silly thing, many times the only thing holding the bass on hismline was that Velcro piece!! I say your brain is working just fine. We need pics!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 29, 2011 Super User Posted April 29, 2011 The idea of glueing a strip of Velcro is not exactly new, the reasoning you have was the same, the velcro will help the bass teeth to get trapped on the strip. Ever heard of Culprit´s Sticky Worm ? That´s what they did, to their regular 7.5 inch ribbontail worm they attached a strip of velcro, I have a bag of those worms and to tell you the truth, only in a couple of times I did actually caught a fish with the teeth trapped on the strip, but the fish were well hooked so most probably the teeth got trapped to the velcro during the fight.
