Super User BASSclary Posted April 27, 2011 Super User Posted April 27, 2011 Nailclippers work fine and they pack in your pocket real small. I never fish without a pliers in a sheath on my belt, cuts mono and braid.... This Quote
Hamby Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Switch to braid & then you will have to use scissors. Yup. I went through the "braid is so freaking awesome" stage for a year and did all but my really light fishing with it. I don't have a bunch of rods so the few i had suitable for most of my fishing all had braid. Broke the habit quickly. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 27, 2011 Super User Posted April 27, 2011 When I was a kid, like 6 years old, my father had to get his gums cut back. Don't ask, but back in the day when you had problems with your gums, that's what they did. Stupidly, I asked what they had to do and he smiled. The worst sight you ever seen. I learned at a very young age to maintain the chcklets you have. I carry a Leatherman Micra with me. the scissors are stainless, always sharp and you cant tell it's in your pocket, it's so thin and compact. Light enough that you can put it on a lanyard and it won't feel too bad around your neck. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 27, 2011 Super User Posted April 27, 2011 Line, splitshot, fingernails... Quote
Fat-G Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Aj, I would try chewing on something when you are fishing. Say sunflower seeds. It would be a lot harder to cut the line with a mouth full of seeds. That way and probably make you pull out clippers. I chew on something when I'm fishing and I never bite the line. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 28, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 28, 2011 I read a story about a guy trying to chew through heavy shock tippet while he was tarpon fishing. He was trying to hold the line tight between his teeth when it slipped and split his tooth lengthwise. He said the pain was so severe he had to ride all the way back to the marina with his back to the wind. I don't know if it was a true story or not but the thought of it makes my legs weak Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 28, 2011 Super User Posted April 28, 2011 I finally stopped, it took wearing a groove in my tooth and the dentist filling it and me popping that filling out to break the habit. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 When I was about 12, I watched somebody spit a sliver of tooth into their palm after doing this, so I thankfully never developed the habit. I still cringe when I see people doing this. Quote
The Bassinator Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 After chipping my tooth eight times (non related fishing accidents) I always use pliers with the cutter or nail clippers. Ill bite in a pinch but I just hate the feeling it has on my teeth and sometimes I cant fit the line through the eye of a hook because its flattened too much Quote
